The human body has many essential parts which are needed for proper functioning. However, it is the soul of that oody, not the physical parts, which makes it important and unique. Our soul is the feeling, caring, laughing, crying, and Iliving part of us. lt is the reality and depth of each of us. As with an individual, so it is with the school. The physical parts of our school, the building, the books, and equip- ment, are of course necessary, but the soul, the real life and feeling of our school, is its people. It is the spirit of each individual that makes Lexington Baptist College more than simply an institution of academic learningg it makes it an experience of life, As each of us becomes involved with the school and one another, we feel, and to feel is to have soul. For a person who is truly concerned about the spiritual aspects of his soul, a good fundamental Bible college is the olace to find the answers to the basic questions of man's relationship to God and also to man through a well balanced pro- gram of study. Here at Lexington Baptist College this is our aim and purpose: to lift up Christ and the Word of God as nan's only means of finding his soul. S-j'-R Bk A 'Nr X . This class was tarted by Pastor Clarence Walker in the Ashland Ave- ue Baptist Church for the purpose of teaching young en whom God had called to the ministry and others ho desired to know the Word of the Lord more per- ectly. Year after year the class met each Monday ight and for three hours studied the Bible, verse by erse. God richly blessed this class. It not only helped ur preacher boys, but made better workers and Sunday choolteachers of all who came. A gracious revival in the early part of 1950 brought a umber of boys to announce that God had called them to reach and some girls to surrender to a call for special ervice. They came from high school, college, and univer- ity levels, and places of service began to open. Other oung people joined their number, and extra classes and ubjects were arranged. Soon we felt the need of a Bible chool with day and night classes. This led to the establishment of a school which was rst called TI-IE ASHLAND AVENUE BIBLE TRAIN- G SCHOOL, a. name which later was changed to THE XINGTON BAPTIST BIBLE INSTITUTE. After two ears as a Bible Institute we added standard college curses and oEered the A.B. degree in Bible related sub- ects. In the spring of 1952 we changed the charter so hat now We have an institution known as the LEXING- ON BAPTIST COLLEGE, giving an A.B. degree in ible and general religious studies, as well as a General ible Course of three years for those who are not pre- ared to enter college. The Tl1.B. program was added in 962, and the M.R.E. program in 1971. Pastor Clarence Walker was president of the school til his retirement in 1966. Bro. George T. Moody assisted n the organization of the school and served as registrar til 1960. Bro. Roswco Brong joined the faculty in 1952 d was appointed dean in 1954. Bro. Larry J. Robbins oined the faculty with the office of registrar in 1968. Bro. Ross L. Range was called to succeed Bro. Walker s pastor of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church and presi- ent of Lexington Baptist College, assuming his duties arch 1. 1967. We believe in the verbal inspiration of the original Scriptures: in the triune Godg the total depravity of mang salvation by grace and justification by faith alone: the absolute freeness of salvation to all who will believe in Christy election, predestination, and calling by the gos- pelg repentance and faith before church membershipg sanctification as a spiritual process and growth: the final perseverance of the saintsg a literal Hell and Heaveng and the eternal punishment of the wicked in the lake of fire. We believe in the virgin birth and the divinity of Christy His bodily resurrection, ascension, and premillen- nial returng world-wide missions, the stewardship of life and possessions, obedience to civil governrnentg and the observance of Sunday as the Lord's Day, the only day enjoined upon and recognized by New Testament Christians. We believe that a. gospel church is a local and visible congregation of baptized believers in Christ, not a uni- versal, invisible bodyg that scriptural baptism is the im- mersion of a believer in water as the Christ-chosen con- fession of salvation, by the authority of a New Testament flocalj church, that such only as are thus baptized are eligible to partake of the Lord's Supperg that a New Testament church is absolutely independent of all au- thority except that of Christ its I-Ieadg and that its only scriptural oflicers are pastors, or elders, and deacons. We believe in the historic position of Baptist churches in their distinctive allegiance to New Testament faith and practice, and we want it to be known that this is a genuine BAPTIST school according 'to that interpreta- tion of Baptists as set forth in THE TRAIL OF BLOOD and other similar publications. All faculty members are expected to concur in this statement of faith, and all who enroll here may expect to hear these doctrines and prin- cinles enunciated without apology. ROSS L.
