ase n nae It was the dawn of a bright September morning in 1939 when a group of excited little girls and boys began their first day of school with Miss Conrad as their teacher. We felt that we were “something” when we mastered the alphabet and learned to count. Under the guidance of our second grade teachers, Mrs. Mock and Miss Gold, we felt that our knowledge was greatly extended when we learned that one plus one gave us a total of two and that four minus two left us only two. The class was still divided during our third year when Miss Gold and Miss Crouse were our teachers. However, we were back together during the fourth grade with Miss Ferguson. We increased our knowledge this year by learning that the Nile River ran through Egypt. We learned other things, though, to be sure. During the next two years, Miss Allred and Mrs. Jones were our teachers. We learned a lot in these years and began to grow up under the gentle guidance of our teachers. Some of our classmates had dropped out along the way, but there were others who came to take their places. By the time we were in the seventh grade we were beginning to feel even more important. We were having wonderful times with our teacher, Miss Taylor, and our other classmates, when that fatal day of December 2, 1945 came. Our school burned down. With sad hearts we re- sumed our classes in the agriculture building. Our eighth year was spent here also, with Mrs. Kelly as our teacher. These were happy days but we longed for the time when all of us would be back together in one school, soma nmnew oe Then all at once we were in high school! At last ou dreams had come true! Our first happy in high schoc| was spent at South Fork with Miss Hicks as our hom room teacher. In the fall of 1948 our new school at Lewisville wa opened. We got lost two or three times at first, but soo| we learned our way around. For awhile it looked as if a) of us would be politicians, because we really learned “t sling mud.” Later, the roads and the walks were paver a nd the floors of the building told a different story. Our sophomore year passed quickly and- before w knew it we were juniors. Mr. Sarbaugh was our kind an patient home room teacher. We worried him nearly t death with our questions about our class rings and ov junior play. Finally we gave our play, ‘Orchids an Onions,” and had worlds of fun doing it. Then the que! tion “When will our rings arrive?” was answered and w thought we were on the top of the world when we pt them on. The Junior-Senior banquet was another big ever of this year. Now we are seniors, and Mrs. Bowers is our home roo! | teacher. We are all looking forward to the senior play, th Junior-Senior banquet, and our trip to Washington. Br most of all we are looking forward to our graduation dav All of our experiences in school are treasured in ov hearts and we shall never forget them. They are of the pas but we believe they will remain precious to us in the futui years. May even our least venture be a successful one! ) BarBaRa PHILLIPS Historian |
