During this time the student develops his talents by learn- ing about the music staff and in depth singing techniques. They have two concerts dur- ing the year, one at Christmas and one in the spr- ing. While they are not prac- ticing for these concerts, they practice sight-reading and contest pieces for the UIL choir contest in March. In addition to this contest, there is also a series of unrequired contests for individual singers which are elimina- rx tions on the way to the state choir. During February there is also a UIL contest, which is unrequired, for solos and ensembles. The Main Street Singers perform frequently around the Dallas!Ft. Worth area upon request. They focus on jazz and pop songs. The choir department has developed a necessary family-like bond, for each student depends much upon the other students. They also saved money for a trip to Orlando, Florida where they participated in a contest. - Kris Erickson SU Dan Bouchelle sings during the tacular Homecoming halftime also performed in My Fair presented in December.
