Harvest Staff at Press s O 8 Welcome to Room 202 and the Newspaper Production class. The class is a regularly scheduled fourth period class, but is definitely dif- ferent. The entire group is in charge of Lewisville High School's weekly publication, The Farmers' Harvest. Eleven very dedicated journalism students make up the class, nine of which are staff writers and two which are staff photographers. The week begins on Monday as assignments are given to the entire staff. Wednesday afternoons are always a challenge. A fren- zied atmosphere invades Room 202 as final typing cor- rections are being made or the layout of a page is being done. This is the time when the Farmers' Harvest is constructed. It begins with layout, the general design of the page, which is done by the editors. The paper is published in both the Lewisville Daily Leadern and the Colony Leader on Friday. Friday is also a deadline for all stories assigned, with the exception of weekend events which all are due Monday. Another Monday hits as stories are assigned and The Farmers' Harvest is sold to students during lunch. - Dale Myers if Dale Myers peers over an October issue of the Harvest. The paper comes out every week in the Lewisville Daily Leader. Cindy Rash and Dale Myers, manag- ing editor, edit copy submitted by Harvest staff reporters. Both are two year journalism students. The red pen strikes again as sponsor Carolyn Morriss corrects copy. Each student is required to turn in two stories every week. 186 Farmers' Harvest lf.ND5llQlJ5 Qi lm 'Eliminator' Tour Ronsocks Reu g KN e C simon luke-', lvl! k,,.,g rg,J.-rim! The department is made up of three groups: Acappella Choir, Women's Chorus and the Main Street Singers, which are directed by Eddie Ranne. He has done more for the school, the choirs, and for me than I can ever thank him for, said Sheri Holcomb. As Dan Bouchelle said, There are few teachers that spend as much time or care as much as Mr. Ranne does. During this time the student develops his talents by learn- ing about the music staff and in depth singing techniques. They have two concerts dur- ing the year, one at Christmas and one in the spr- ing. While they are not prac- ticing for these concerts, they practice sight-reading and contest pieces for the UIL choir contest in March. In addition to this contest, there is also a series of unrequired contests for individual singers which are elimina- rx tions on the way to the state choir. During February there is also a UIL contest, which is unrequired, for solos and ensembles. The Main Street Singers perform frequently around the Dallas!Ft. Worth area upon request. They focus on jazz and pop songs. The choir department has developed a necessary family-like bond, for each student depends much upon the other students. They also saved money for a trip to Orlando, Florida where they participated in a contest. - Kris Erickson SU Dan Bouchelle sings during the tacular Homecoming halftime also performed in My Fair presented in December.
