As We accept this idea of the brotherhood of man, since we have a common Creator, we raise the standard of human rela- tions to a higher and happier plane. It is the glory and strength of America that our founding fathers held firmly to this ideal. Here in school as we study art, literature, music, and science, we know We have been enriched and inspired by the cultural contributions of all races and creeds. As a well-integrated school, we cherish the loyalty and friendship of every member of our fine student body. VVe, the Class of 755, will stand side by side as brothers, as we face the problems and opportunities of life. ITED I fgfi RCDTHERHOO Theme .... Dedication Administration Faculty ..... Memorial . . . By their teaching, example, and endless service in our behalf from baptism on through our growing years, they have trained us to have, as a vital influence in the develop- ment of our character and personality, faith in God. We also realize that we are indebted to these men for the guidance and counsel we have needed during these years, and now, in this way we wish to express our thanks. To them we gratefully and reverently dedicate the 1955 Lore. ad' ,M A 6 vw 'kwa 1' 1 '- S TO THE CLERGY A THEIR ORK MEMBERS OF THE CLERGY, standing, A left to right: Rev. S. E. Wicker, Rev. W. Superintendent of Public Schools WHO HA E By attending our public schools, you have learned the great precept of brotherhood. You have learned, played and grown up with boys and girls of many different faiths. In the give and take of growing up together, you have learned the real meaning of brotherhood. You have become friends with those of all faiths. Only the public school can serve this great end. We do not find the whole of ourselves until our inner reality possesses those spiritual forces which are greater than ourselves. We need this inner reality to face life's challenges and to live the abundant life. Faith, hope, and love are still the abiding realities. Growth is one of the striking notes of our religious faiths. To the graduates of this 1955 class, continue your growth spiritually, and develop your capacity to think straight, to come to sound conclusions, and to work constructively with other people. ln this nation, it is the individual that counts, and the in- dividual is master of his own destiny. As a graduate, we expect you to carry high the ideals of our Alma Mater and to be a truly representative citizen of our great Republic. We wish you success. Lewistown, Pennsylvania MR. RICHARD F. SNYDER B.S., M.Ed. Principal Lewistown Jr.-Sr. High School Brotherhood is a dynamic living form working actively to bring together in common understanding people of all nationalities, races, and creeds, work- ing toward a universal goalwaa better world in which to live. In our school life we must continue to practice the ideals of brotherhood if we wish to achieve a real democracy. It is important that students and faculty show respect for the importance and worth of each individual-irrespective of race, creed, or color. The age-old question is always with us, .-lm I my b1'0thc1 s kccpc1'! The question is as old as civilization. And all the noble answers to this question through the years affirm that all men, of all religions, of all colors and of all languages are brothers. No man can live alone. MISS GLADYS S. Along with Spanish and Latin, French is one of the many electives of the Academic course. By playing records, singing songs, and reading stories, we become better acquainted with the language. OUR CLASS ATES Fl DCAREERS I THE Academic TOUCHE, IVIACBETI-I! Student dramatization of the classic gives a better understanding and more enjoy- ment to all. JW' AS STUDENTS of trigonometry, we learn about solving a triangle, finding its area, and of other related phases. Here Sarah lVlcCahan and Joe Marrone graph the sine and cosine of an angle. PROFESSIONS AN BUSINESS THIS STENOGRAPHY II Class studies transcription which includes spelling, grammar, and punctuation along with the repetitive practice in shorthand of brief forms, phrases, word beginnings and endings, giv- en at challenging speeds. A STRIKING SIMILAR- ITY to authentic office con- ditions and procedures is achieved in office practice. A well-rounded course of twelve phases of office work is presented. 'N-an-. Kvmmcrcial BY MEANS of continuous drills and practice, high speeds are attained and accuracy is improved in typing class. Mfr N l OTHERS IN HGMEMAKI AND I DLISTRY EMPHASIS IS placed generally on individual W approach to creative expression in arts and crafts. Each pupil or group is responsible for defining problems and selecting the means for solving them. Jfamamukiug BY THE use of films, these pupils in social studies find that their course in the study of National Government is more interesting, and not too difficult to understand. Q-.5 A' UNDERSTANDING PATTERNS is very important to these girls preparing themselves to be future home- makers. They learn the fundamentals of cutting, fitting and sewing. THESE GIRLS find that practice plays an important part in becoming efficient cooks. Along with practice, the value of nutrition is emphasized as well as that of planning and serving meals. ACCURACY PLAYS an important part when a worker uses a metal lathe. Here a vocational student in the machine shop increases his skill while completing a useful implement. Vmztiwzal IN THE DRAFTING shop, future architects are taught the fundamentals of a well-built home. With T-square and triangle, much work is accom- plished. ELECTRICITY, one of the chief benefactors of the THESE BOYS from the woodshop are receiving modern age is the subject of extensive study n t e practical application of carpentry, as they work on electric shop a house building project, which is a new part of the Vocatlonal curriculum. 60155 Ofkccr SENIOR CLASS OFFI- CERS, left to right: Carole Houser, secretaryg Clifford HHFIIIIZH, presidentg Steve Shimp, treasurerg Helen Phenicie, vice-president. ,fldzfzlvcrs SENIOR CLASS ADVIS- ERS, left to right: Miss Gladys S. The Lore, sponsored by the Senior Class, is a pictorial review or record of the curricular and extracurricular activities of the school year. In the spring, the junior Class elects the staff members. lmmediately in the fall, they select the theme. In meetings that follow, the committees plan the lay- out, prepare the biographies, and work on the cap- tions for the hundreds of pictures in the book. Then the staff members solicit patrons and sell sub- scriptions. When all the work is checked and type- written, the yearbook goes to press. The Lore has been published for thirty-six years. As in the past, the 1954 Lore received an award of First Place Rating in the Pennsylvania School Press Association. AN ASSEMBLIE - OUR T LENTS ARE REVEALED Assemblies are an important part of school life in both the junior and Senior Departments, because students who take part acquire poise and confidence by losing the fear of public appearances. These programs are entertaining as well as educational. Members of the Public Speaking Class pre- sented interesting monologues. The Academic, Commercial, and Vocational students took part in various plays and musical numbers. This is the time when the annual Senior Class Play is presented. Amid a frenzy of tryouts, dance routines, costumes, and tickets, emerges an entertaining and well-directed production. This year the Senior Class presented 'iAn- chors Aweighf' a revue in two acts, directed by Barry Lyndall of john B, Rogers Productions. This amusing performance took us on a musical tour of such intriguing spots as a beach in Hawaii, a royal ball in Old Vienna, and a night- club in Paris. Lewistown scored first, but could not stop the rush- ing of Roy Baker and Company. LEWISTOWN 32-BELLEFONTE 13 The Panthers roared on this night. A strong de- fense combined with a powerful aerial attack stopped a highly touted Bellefonte squad. Belle- fonte, a strong ground-gaining team, was held to two touchdowns by an inspired Panther line. Jim Taylor, veteran quarterback, found his mark for long yardage frequently. This was the only defeat suffered by Bellefonte this season. LEWISTOWN 29-TYRONE 0 An inexperienced and completely outclassed Tyrone squad fell prey to the victory-minded Panthers. For the first time this season the Panthers showed a strong running attack and scoring punch. LEWISTOWN 25-CAPTAIN JACK 12 The Panthers took the field with revenge in their eyes for last seasons defeat at the hands of the Trojans. Hard tackling by the Panther defense stopped the running attack of the Trojans, but a powerful aerial attack kept them threatening the entire game. LEWISTOWN 40-STATE COLLEGE 12 A rugged and determined State College team took ley, Maurey, Bailey, Cohen, Cramer, Mr. Sicchitano, assistant coach. RE OUR GOALS the held and almost fought the Panthers to a standstill the first half, but the Panthers came back in the second half to outplay their hosts completely. LEWISTOWN 14-LOCK HAVEN 21 In the wake of Hurricane Hazel, the Panthers competed against a heavier Lock Haven eleven. Bill Knepp, Panther halfback, ran the opening kick- off 80 yards for a touchdown. Lady Luck smiled on the Bobcats in the closing seconds of the game when a pass interception with a resulting touch- down broke a 14-14 deadlock. LEWISTOWN 47-JERSEY SHORE 6 Scoring in every period, the Panthers claimed a victory over a spirited, but outclassed foe. This game marked a renewal of competition with this school. LEWISTOWN 6-DANVILLE 20 Bowing to a superior Danville squad, the Panthers played one of their hardest-fought games of the season. The Panther defense could not stop the hard running of Danville's brilliant halfback, joe Scisley. LEWISTOWN 13-HUNTINGDON 13 An inspired Huntingdon eleven held a superior Panther squad to a 13-13 deadlock. The game seemed a Maroon and Steel victory until the final minute when a 92-yard pass play resulted in a tie score for the Bearcats. fm 1x3 N, X Xpx ,Q 2 K ' f ,-1' QW Q. lp I L, OF is I f 2 ji f K 5 Q ,, LAIRD HOWE New YW W X H, I ... The over-all program of Coaches Alex Ufema and joe Sicchitano paid off in full despite the fact that the team was literally green in varsity compe- tition. The Panthers were undefeated in league competition and thus copped their second straight crown. The team also proved its championship calibre by defeating teams such as Sunbury, Shamokin, and Altoona. Lost by graduation are Ronnie lVertz, .lim Taylor, Cliff Hartman, and john Boyer.
