Publishing this book, with 104 pages plus the five inserted color divi- sion pages, has cost the staff considerable planning and figuring to make all ends meet. The advertising staff, with a goal of two hundred ads from friendly Twin City businessmen, worked constantly from February to the first of April to be able to show a clean balance in the account books. The staff worked diligently during the 1949-1950 term to bring you this representative flash-back of your school year at LHS. The 120 separate engraving cuts used in the book were a big problem to get ready. For every cut used, the staff had to take three or four pictures of each group despite the twenty-two below zero temperatures, the record snowfall and rain showers during the early spring, besides trying to get people out on time. For the Seniors we have tried to include every activity and club to which they belonged to provide a memorable record of their stay at Lew- iston High School. For the underclassmen we have tried to set a standard by which the books in the future might be iust as good as our 1950 Bengal. Yes, in picture, cartoon, art work and writeup the staff of the 1950 Bengal has labored earnestly to bring you this yearbook. We trust that errors that may have crept in, despite triple-checking, will be minor and that the merits of the book will far overshadow them. Thus another fond and cherished school tradition has been carried out. Today you have the results of the work of the seventeen annual staffers who brought you the 1950 BENGAL. - The Editor. ? y svIxvr1 wy,yfW r S ' 4715 , S... i iq i ffsq fir fa, 'X M in M fu 1 13 - JWZO 19 ft xW lx f -9 W W.. 3 ' , t I! . Before assuming his new position last fall, Mr. Click was principal of the Lewiston Junior High School from 1942 to the spring of 1949. Prior to that he was grade school principal at the old Whitman and Webster buildings. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1933 and his Master of Science in 1941, both at the University of Idaho. He has also spent several summer sessions at the University of California and at the University of Southern California. Mr. Click has been active in community work, especially in the Boy Scouts. He served as the district scouting commissioner from 1942 to 1949 and now is the Lewis-Clark Council commissioner. The presidencies of the Lewiston-Clarkston Kiwanis Club and Idaho Education Association have been conferred upon him. Main leisure-time interests of Mr. Click are hunting and fishing, in season. DONNA MARIE SKINNER-In all her activities. Donna Marie tound herselt in the public eye. Anti ities Mechanics Pause For Snap Future machinists of the Lewis- ton-Clarkston area were grouped around their competent instructor, W. C, Frick, at the Lewiston High School machine shop when the cameraman of the 1950 Bengal stopped in to look over their pro- jects. Science Has Hs Marvels S, S. Scheibe, science instructor at LHS, was giving his second hour physics class a demonstration in the use of the electro-static machine at the moment this candid action shot was snapped. Forty Words a Minute Yes, these members of the third hour typing class are shown busi- ly at work during a practice ten- minute time test in the typing room. It looks as if several of the students are having a bad time with their paper. Mrs. lVlarie Nicholas, instructor, kindly con- sented to our taking the picture of another LHS class room. Experience ls the Best Teacher That motto was used consider- ably at the LHS wood shop during the 1949-1950 school term. These seventeen ambitious young carpen- ters were completing the finishing touches on their wall shelves under the direction of Mr. E. C. Reiber. A 0 t ' ' t ' Chemists Study Compounds Mix H,SO, with NaCl and what is the result? The answer to this question and many others was capably answered by chemistry students under the direction of Marion Shinn, instructor, after completing many interesting and some rather 'lsmelIy experiments on lab day. Broad casters, Station LHS There's probably a future Don Willson or Glenn Hardy right here in the midst of the second hour Public Speaking class in the LHS broadcasting booth, but we just don't recognize him today. Miss Nell Robinson, speech coach, trained these sixteen speakers for the weekly radio programs aired over KRLC. Radio Technicians Delve Noel Berkeley, Bob Kincaid, and Warren Axtell were the three mem- bers of the Electronics Club re- sponsible for the technical end of the radio broadcasts from Room 28. Under the direction of Mr. Ed Sanman, Jr., a new broadcast amplifier was installed in the LHS studio. Lunch Time About Here Remember all the rainy days when you ate your lunch in the cafeteria and you always wondered who pre- pared the delicious meals. Well now you can take a look at the six persons who were responsible for the preparation, serving, and cleaning up of the cafeteria throughout the 1949-1950 school year.
