Here they are given the privilege of preparing them- selves for a future rich with promise. This ONEIDA is dedicated to the abun- dance of knowledge, the richness of ex- perience, and the wealth of opportunity which are present at L.I.H.S. for those who are seekers. ROBERT E. BECKMAN Supervising Principal October 24, 1982 Dear Class of 1963: As I write I note that the date is October 24, which is United Nations Day. The winners of the U.N. com- petition have not yet been announced, and many of you are still wondering and hoping. You can take pride in the fact that Lewisburg Ioint High School was the first area school to participate in the annual trip to the United Nations headquarters. It was my pleasure to accompany that first group way back in the fall of 1949. The U.N. has come a long way since that time, and so has our high school. If things are as they ought to be, each class should be better than the preceding one. I am sure it is true in your case. You will need all the resources you can muster because this old world cant stand a lot of improving. May you be so fortunate as to leave it a better place than you found it, and may you have a good life along the way. dministration Lewisburg Joint High School Committee Row 1: Mr. Thomas G. Lewis, Mr. Larue E. Brown, Mr. Iesse L. Web- ster, Mrs, Eleanor A. Tasker, Mr. W. Richard Kauffman. Row 2: Mr. Donald B. Young, Mr. Arthur Mil- ler, Dr. Carroll Nesbit, Mr. Robert C. Yocum, Mr. William M. Wagner. Dear Student Body: Looking forward, twelve years seem to be a long' time. But looking back now, your twelve years in school probably have gone faster than you r-ealized. May the next twelve or more years of your life be as challenging, interesting, and pleasant as your school days. Someone has said, Life is a mirror which will reflect back to you what you put into it. WILLIAM R. RUHL Assistant Principal STANFORD L. KUNKLE Principal Facult Richard S. A. Abbott Richard S. Composed of one representative from each home- room, class presidents, and an elected President, this organization tries to develop among the students a greater responsibility ior law and order in the school. Highly active in the school's internal management, it maintains the school store and conducts school elections. It was largely through the Counci1's efforts that L.I.H.S. was able to sponsor its first foreign stu- dent during the 1961-1962 school year. The organ- ization was introduced into L.I.H.S. in 1951, when a charter for the Alpha Chapter of the National Honor Society was granted to the school. Selection of mem- bers is made by the faculty on the basis of scholar- ship Cat least ct 90 average for juniors, and an 88 average for seniorsl, leadership, service, and char- acter. Formed in 1957, the Iunior High Honor Society is composed of eighth and ninth graders, selected on the same basis as the senior high members. Proceeds from the fair were used for improvements in the school. The Girls' League continued its tradition of supporting a Korean Orphan. Here, all students participated in an intensive schedule of marching drills for many hours each day, in an effort to prepare and perfect the pre-game and half- time shows to be given at the football games. Later in the fall, the band participated in the Halloween and the Homecoming parades. During February the band gave the annual winter concert and served as host to the Philadelphia Orchestra Wind Quintet. For the first time in its history, the band went on a Winter concert tour to several cities in Pennsylvania and New Iersey. The band financed the entire excursion from its own funds. The annual spring concert was given in May, after which the band officially closed the 1962-63 season. During recent years our high school has achieved recognition for having as outstanding a musical organization as this one. The band members generously give of their time and musical talents to work cooperatively with Mr. Wilhjelrn in order to produce high quality performances. Varsity Basketball Quick footwork helped the Dragons to get out of many holes. 5 Although the Green Dragon basketball team experienced a disappointing season in 1962-63, with only four wins, the players never gave up in any game. They displayed great fight and spirit throughout the season. Seniors Bill Hunter and Vince Powell contributed greatly to the team. Hunter placed in the top ten in scoring in the league. One of the highlights of the season was the heartbreaking game Lewisburg lost to Sun- bury, 47-46, in which Sunbury scored a field goal with just thirty seconds remaining in the game. The injuries which plagued the team throughout the year weakened the team greatly, but the four sophomores and the three juniors who played this year will return to strengthen the squad for the 1963-64 season.
