With its choral groups, band and assembly singing, Lewisburg High School proves that it is no ex- ception. The enjoyment of music is universal, and in keeping with the trend toward a universal concept, we, the ONEIDA staff of 1945, have chosen music as the theme for our yearbook. Last spring the Masque was responsible for repair- ing the footlights on the stage, as well as re-painting the scenery. This year the project of cleaning up the dressing rooms was undertaken and satisfactorily completed. Interesting chapel programs were presumed by the Masque at the beginning of this year. 38 THE EWSPAPER The Green Dragon has progressed amazingly in one year,s time This paper is sung about and sold every three weeks and is fast becom- ing a must on the students' buying list. STUDENT COUNCIL FIRST SEMESTER The Student Council got into the swing of things first semester by presenting an organization known as the Activities Club,', composed of representatives of each class and responsible for chapel programs during this school year. The main purpose of the Student Council this year has been to promote a feeling of school spirit among the pupils of L. H. S. This purpose has been accomplished very effectively. 40 STUDE T COUNCIL SECOND SEMESTER The Second Semester Student Council continued its fine work in the comparatively new patriotic as well as the regular school activities it has supervised. It has guided the student body in the salvage drives so eiiiciently that Lewisburg High School has been awarded the banner several times, marking our school the leader in salvage work. The Student Council has many accomplishments to be proud of, and Lewisburg High School, in its entirety, considers this organization a real working organization. First Ilow. The purpose of this group is to study and practice using the latest method and devices designed to advance farming to a higher degree of perfection. These young men have the interests of our country in mind, pursu- ing improvements and new ideas which will lead to 21 better-fed America. 42 SONS OF THE GREEN DRAGON This year the Boys' League was organized on the club plan. The The Athletic, F. F. A., Bachelors', Photography, Music and Sportsman Clubs made up a well-rounded program. During the year, the league has presented a series of interesting and educational chapel programs. An All-Out for Memorial Field pro- gram was presented through which they raised nearly 5500. Several other presentations were made by the boysg namely, a French horn to the band and a service flag to the school. First lluw. 1.1-ft to lliillll-fNll2lllKl1'l', Strzlssnt-r. GIRLS' LEAGUE Harmony is the keynote of the Girls' League. Under the capable leadership of this year's officers and the treasured guidance of Mrs. Mathias, the Girls' League meets twice a month, the meetings coming on Wednesdzly. The meetings are devoted to business and to enter- tainment in the form of speakers and programs sponsored by the four classes. The Girls' League has become n tradition and it furnishes a friendly and guiding haven to every girl in the high school. 44 GIRLS' CHORUS From a group of amateur warbling birds, Miss Robison once again has emerged with a really worthwhile voice organization. The Girls' Chorus is composed of several Junior and Senior girls who hold music close to their hearts. Important events for the group were the participation in the annual Christmas Carol Service and a concert in which they joined with the band. First Row, Left to Right-Gluuta, Arner, Ilintt. The graceful spirea in the background, combined with the soft tones of thc court gowns and costumes of other participants in the program, lent a pleasing atmosphere to the event. 46 CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE The annual Christmas Carol Service was presented December 20, 1944, and featured the vocal organization of the high school under the direction of Miss Inez Robison in conjunction with a beautiful and inspiring pageant in which pupils of the grade schools and the high school took part. The service included several selections by the Girls' Chorus and the Mixed Chorus, and was followed by the pageant which was represen- tative of the memorable Manger at Bethlehemf, 47 X :main - . But as the season progressed the Dragons lost their stride and had to play a championship game with Dalmatia High School. The Dragons were left behind during the last half of the game by the score of 5-1. However, this defeat was forgotten by a victory over the Mifflin- burg Comets, Lewisburg High School's old rivals, by the score of 1-0. The Dragons did not set any records this year, but they showed promise of a good team for the next year. 48 VAR ITY BASEBALL This ycaris baseball team turned in a rather poor performance com- pared to that of the championship team of last year. The Dragons fought all the way from the bottom during the first half of the season, but during the final half they went into a slump and ended up in last place in the league. Even with this defeat facing them, the Dragons showed spirit and sportsmanship throughout the season to make a fine standing for their school. The leading batter for the team was Wendell Smith, the captain, with .400. He was closely followed by Eugene Solomon with .396. First. VARSITY BASKETBALL This year's varsity basketball team, under the new leadership of Coach Denver Dyer, turned in a wonderful record at the close of their season. The Dragons won the first-half championship gave over Selinsgrove High School by the score of 42-38. Their luck did not hold out, however, and during the second-half they fell down to second place in the league. In the final championship game for the Susquehanna League the Bloomsburg Panthers defeated the Dragons 30-28. This was their last game of the season. They played 22 games, winning 18 of them, for a fine record of play. 50 VICTORY CORPS Hut! Two! Three! Four! This has become a familiar chant at L. H. S. since the organization of the Victory Corps. Under the experienced supervision of Mr. Gill, the Victory Corps provides a pre- liminary course in discipline and leadership valuable to all. It is rapidly becoming one of the most profitable and outstanding activities of the high school, as is fitting in these times. Hats off to Mr. Gill! - 1 mil 51 THE BAND This year Lewisburg High School students have shown their interest and co-operation in a new and progressive organization, which, under the competent leadership of ri new faculty member, Mr. Beckman, has more than proved its worth. The Victory Corps marched to music, and the basketball games were made even more exciting by the presence of the band. The band gave n concert in the spring and played on Memorial Day. This worthy project has evolved slowly but steadily, and the future has much in store for it. 52 FEATURES BY THESE THINGS YE SHALL Naomi Butler . George Dyer ,. Barbara Bechtel ,..,...
