In it we find many elements of the Stage, the Play, and the Theatre-the actors, the directors, the K'limelight,', the many rehearsals before a performance, and the con- flicts between the characters in the play itself. c Keeping these facts in mind, we of the ONEIDA Staff have chosen to use Drama and Things Dramatici' as our theme in the produc- tion of our yearbook. We have not limited ourselves to any partic- ular branch but have borrowed bits from here and there-Shake- speare's blank verse, the parts of a play, the development of the theatre-and have attempted to knit them into one whole. Our hope is that in the future this record of Lewisburg High School and its life during 1941-42 will bring back to you many happy remembrances. The Play's the thingli' -WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE ll- ll' DEDIICATJION QECAUSE of our admiration of and respect for him and the kind of life he is leading, We, the Class of 1941-2, dedicate our ONEIDA to the teacher Who entered Lewisburg High School with us four years ago, RALPH M. H. S. earns five points in some kind of dramatic work, he is invited to become a member of the Masque, the Dramatic Club that circulates from home to home on those eventful Monday evenings. ' The main enterprise of the Masque this year was to make membership worthwhile by developing such projects as having the round table discussion with the Clair Tree Major Company, entertaining guest speakers, reading noted plays, and planning assembly pro- grams. Their dream this year was a trip to New York City to see a Broadway production. Perhaps in the future the dream will become a reality lo lhose who carry on the Masque. 40 1942 ONEIDA ir STUDENT COUNCUL The pause was not lengthy between the formation of the first semester Student Council and its seemingly instantaneous reactions to school interests, leading to successful steps in solving the parking problem, giving the Hallowe'en Dance, extending a drive for treasury funds, and the flag salute as new enterprises for the student body. if STUDENT COUNCIL SECOND SEMESTER The Student Council resumed its usual speedy pace in the second half of the school year and capably started to act. The members began a contest for new cheers and arranged the sale of the Red Cross Benefit tickets with amazing results. With this activity the Student Council served the school with efficiency and satisfaction the whole year round. Page 50 'A' 1942 ONEIDA STUDENT COUNCIL lst Semester First Row. Once a month the girls meet in various clubs, such as the beauty club, card club, cooking club, nursing club, dancing club, and the other date in the month they assemble to have their business meeting, hear speakers or entertainment, and to hold forums on problems to be discussed openly by all. Some annual projects of the League consist of the Christmas baskets, the Mother-Daughter and the Father-Daughter Banquet, and the School Fair. ak SONS GE THE GREEN DRAGON The Sons of The Green Dragon is an organization composed of all the boys in L. H. S., governed by the boys on much the same basis as the Girls' League, and sponsored by Mr. Minnier. The prime purpose of the League is to help advance the members in social education, accomplishing this by preparing many interesting and amusing, as well as educational, programs for the boys each time they meet. Often the Sons of The Green Dragon Work hand in hand with the Girls, League to do something beneficial for the school. Everyone can well recall the fun they had the day they conducted a race when collecting the money from the students to buy a flag for assembly, passing comical notes containing statements regarding each other's money situation back and forth between the meetings. lncidentally-the girls won! The festivities opened with the processiong then following came the crowning of our lovely May Queen, Helen Lundy, by last year's queen, Rachel Arbogast. Dances that were typical of the outstanding periods of develop- ment in our American history were gaily performed by smiling young ladies and gentlemen. - 4 4 CHRJISTMAS CAROL SERVICE Mid Yuletide bustlings and holiday anticipations the Girls, Chorus and the Boys' Glee Club presented the fourteenth Christmas Carol Service under the direction of Miss Inez Robison. There was a seemingly tangible spirit between the spectators and the singers-perhaps conveyed from the joyous singing to the listening audience. The successful service was a beautiful one, not soon to be forgotten. W Pag C ir 1942 ONEIDA MAY DAY Seated, Left to Rightfklorrow, Menscll, Herring. Dieffenderfer, Lundy, Hayden, Corey. H. S. for many years was that presented by the 41-42 varsity soccer team. Having lost only one soccer game-that to Milflinburg by one point-the Green Dragons were on their way to winning the cup for the third time at State College when it was discovered that one of the players was ineligible because of his age. After reporting this fact to the proper authorities, Lewisburg forfeited all the games played this year and also all the honors it had won. Thus officially, Lewisburg lost all soccer games played this year by the score of 1-0. Before the forfeit, scores of the games were as follows: Lewisburg .......................... 4 Laurelton 0 Lewisburg ..... .... 1 Mifllinburg 2 Lewisburg ..... .... 6 Laurelton - 1 Lewisburg .... 1 MifHinburg 0 Lewisburg ..... .... 8 Laurelton - 0 Lewisburg ..... .... 5 Mifliinburg 1 Lewisburg ..... .... 4 Turbotville 1 Lewisburg .... 3 Middleburg 1 Lewisburg ..... .... 4 Dalmatia - 2 ir 'VARS1TY BASEBALL Last year's varsity baseball team knew their lines and actions perfectly, and by flawless co-ordination, came through with an undefeated season. By defeating teams from Laurelton, Nlifflinburg, and Sunbury twice, the Green Dragons, for the fourth consecutive year, won the League championship. Batting honors were captured by Lou Sauers, with an average of .454, and Kenny Crook, runner-up with .409. Jim Corey was the star hurler, while Captain George Ticcony completed the other half of the two-star battery. LNTBRCLASS BASKETBALL The Senior A and Senior B teams, taking advantage of their three years of experience in the public eye, easily outplayed their less experienced rivals, and won honors in their respective leagues. In the play-off, the B team, failing to produce the actors necessary for the performance, was compelled to give the game, and the cham- pionship to the A team by a forfeit. Managers of the interclass games this year were Fred Slack and ulimw Stanley, while HBob,' Myers was acting captain of the victor- ious A's. -if GLRLS9 LNTBRCLASS BASKETBALL Championship Winner on the basketball floor this year is none other than the present Sophomore class. Their talent lies not only in soccer but in basketball as well. Here,s our opportunity to give our congratulations to this group. We hope their success continues. This year twenty-seven candi- dates-sixteen of whom are girls-report for practice regularly once every week. Due to the prolonged absence of the instructor, Miss Blandy, Mary Wertz, a very capable Senior on the team, coaches the girls. Mr. Sharadin puts the fellows through their paces. Although there are only three Seniors on the team-Mary Wertz, Phyllis Zieber, and Arlene Sechler-all three are veterans, and will be missed next year. if GIRLS' BOWLING CLUB The Girl,s Bowling League was organized under the supervision of the Ladies' Inter-city Bowling League. There were teams from each class, four girls on each team, and ten teams in the League. The Senior A team won the league with 59 wins and 41 losses, although the Sophomore A team won the Womerfs International Bowling Club plaque for the high single game with 520 pinsg the Senior A group placed second with 491 pins.
