Respect for human personality is one of the fundamental tenets of our democracy. Each student h as a right to grow to his full stature, to develop his potentialities through participation, and to share in a variety of activities. Individual differences need to be recognized and respected. Your school endeavors to provide a challenging and meaningful curriculum along with many and diverse activities — all designed for the optimum creation of the individual . A minimum of rules places considerable responsibility on each student to become self- directed. In our society, each individual should be free not only to think, to inquire, and to communicate without fear, but to direct himself in such a way that his behavior is for the common good. I feel that the class of 1969 has demonstrated to a high degree the fact that they are self-directed. I compliment this class for its many contributions during the past four years. The hope of our nation — and that of the world — rests in the willingness of each individual to contribute and to participate as fully as he is able toward the understanding and betterment of mankind. I have every confidence that this class will make its contribution to that end.
