Courtesy of Dorian Studio Principal William E.L. Donner The beautiful color photograph on the opposite page is a reproduction of our newly approved school crest. The idea was initiated by last year’s senior class, but the big job of developing and completing it was achieved by the hardworking committees of the ASB. Anyone who has been associated with Lewis and Clark for any period of time is quick to realize we are endowed with a rich heritage of traditions and spirit. The goal of the ASB committees was to portray by symbols and a motto the most significant aspects of this heritage, and to this end they succeeded very well. The figures of the explorers Lewis and Clark” represent not only the challenge of the future of their era, but that of our own as well. The selection of the Latin words “Fides (Faith), “Noscentia” (Knowledge), and Virtus (Virtue) for the school motto was an excellent choice. The left-hand section of the shield shows the front portion of the building; this symbolizes the academic traditions of the school. The bottom portion of the shield is taken from the architectural design seen above each entrance to the school. The figure at the right represents activities and is a replica of the figure above the Hunter Fieldhouse. Occupying the place of prominence at the top of the shield is the tiger. This, of course, represents the “tiger spirit” which typifies all our endeavors. The “tiger spirit” has certainly been prevalent this year. Though ours is now the smallest school in the city, we still retain a place of prominence in both activities and academic fields. I feel this year’s senior class has especially made this so, and to them I wish to extend my appreciation for their contributions. I hope each member of the Class of 1968 will be able to meet the challenges of the future in a manner that is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Lewis and Clark High School. William E. L. Donner 17
