AFS EXCHANGE STUDENT Helga Witt from Freyung, Germany The most wonderful year of my life is almost over. It is a pity that time goes by so quickly. When I look back now, I realize how many prejudices I had. My thinking has changed in many ways but only in favor of America. I am most impressed with your friendliness and the interest you showed in my country and its problems. We in Europe hear so many things about you, but no newspaper article ever mentioned that the outstanding trait of an American is friendliness. Your friendliness was everywhere— at church, in your community life, in the homes where I have spent wonderful hours, and above all, at L.C. Do you realize how lucky you are to go to such a great school? The first letters I wrote to my family and friends back in Germany dealt mainly with this unbelievably pleasant and friendly atmosphere at school. Here school life is really fun. Now I know what real school spirit is. You have demonstrated it at the football and basketball games, and the pep cons which fascinated me most of all the school activities. The motto of A.F.S. is: Walk together, talk together Oh, ye people of the earth. Then and only then shall ye Have peace on earth.
