EXCHANGE STUDENT Before I came here, when I thought of America, I imagined cowboys, never-ending plains, Coca-Cola, the Statue of Liberty, Bonanza, chew- ing gum, and long, long cars. But the thing that really impressed me here was you, you friends at Lewis and Clark, and in general all the people here in Spokane. You are really a friendly, warmhearted, enthusiastic, young, and great people. Keep this attitude always! It seems onlv- yesterday when I stepped, tired and scared, from the plane; immediately I was heartily welcomed by my new family and my friends from L.C. That was a wonderful start for a wonderful year! I sure learned a lot here, and not only at school! I was certainly lucky that I could, through the American Field Service, spend a year with a wonderful family, and with the mighty Tigers! Well, if one of you ever comes to Italy, you know you have a friend down there! ARRIVEDERCI! VIVA! Umberto Tiger Zuballi The American Field Service was founded to foster good will among nations through the ex- change of students. This program makes it possible for American and foreign students alike to live and study in other lands. Perhaps one of the greatest experiences to be gained from this program is a better understanding fostered from actual family life. This way a student views the country, not as a tourist, but more as a citizen. Lewis and Clark has had exchange students from Argentina, Norway, Switzerland, and Italy during the past four years. L ' mberto Zuballi, this year ' s exchange student from Trieste, Ital , is living at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Carmichael. Their daughter, Kay, is a junior at LC.
