tiring. Yet the theme of your yearbook holds a message and a hope for both of us. This school, which we all love so well, was named after two rugged individuals who realized that there was the West to conquer and spaces to explore. Now in 1965 wath all of the material things we enjoy, with all the scientific knowledge we possess, when all of the world seems to be as close as our backyard, some of us might come to the conclusion that there is nothing more for one to do. The Lewis and Clark expedition took men of courage, detennina- tion, a willingness to work, a faith in themselves and their purpose. And so toda ' for vour generation and for mine there are many opportunities if we but look for them. It will take the same qualities, however, for us to succeed today as were possessed by our pioneers. First of all, let us set our standards of conduct high. Then, with God ' s help, the wide, wide world will be our West to explore and conquer. P. S. I love every brick and stone in this building. 21

The Parker Years February 12, 1900, was a fortunate birthdate for Mr. Parker, for it provided his dispairing parents of six a ready solution to tlie name problem — Abraham Lineoln Parker. This, as it turned out, was a fortuitous choice, for he has demonstrated many of the characteristics of his famous namesake. After he grev ' up and attended school in Stillwater, Slinnesota, he then went to the state University. After earning his diploma, Mr. Parker ac- cepted his first teaching assignment at Prairie du Chien, W isconsin. But when, in 1926, the opportunity came to continue his career in Spokane, he was quick to answer the call. .And so it was, Lewis and Clark had its first glimpse of the new civics and history teacher. History and civics didn ' t consume all his time — in fact, PE became in- creasingK ' popular with him as his friendship grew with its instructor, Nh)nda X ' alicanje. After a gold-fish bowl romance aided and abetted by the whole school, they were married. July 1, 1942, was a red-letter day for ' ice Principal Parker — for it was then that he first sat in the principal ' s chair. He was obviously a popular choice, for his candidacy was svipported by every member of the LC faculty. .Additional good fortune visited the Parkers, as they were soon joined by a son, William, and a daughter, Peggy Jo. The subsequent years passed swiftly, and, more and more Mr. Parker became identified with the growth and development of Lewis and Clark into one of the outstanding secondary schools in the state. His capable guidance engendered the qualit - of excellence, just as his warmth and enthusiasm solidified an e er-widening circle of friends . . .
