ABRAHAM LINCOLN PARKER Principal I have been told that the theme of this yearbook is the South Side Story. I can say without hesitation — or might I be prejudiced — that the Story has been a glorious one. As I look back to 1925 when I became part of the Story, I can see three outstanding reasons for the school ' s success. First, it has been due to a staff of teachers who are dedicated to their profession of working with boys and girls and giving of themselves for youth. Second, it has been due to our being located in a community that has always been interested in good schools and education of a high quality. Third, it has been due to a student body, the majority of whom understand that with every right comes a responsibility, and that where each student or each graduate is, Lewis and Clark is there also. May this class of June, 1963 continue to write brilliant chapters in the South Side Story. 5

Dedication The 1963 Tiger is dedicated to the telling of the South Side Story. This Story pertains to Lewis and Clark, because Lewis and Clark is the only South Side high school. In short, Lewis and Clark is the South Side Story. The opening of the new high school in the fall of 1963 represents a milestone in South Side History, actually the End of an Era. Each section of this Tiger is to be read as a chapter of a book, each chapter telling of a phase of the closely relat6d Lewis and Clark and South Side Stories. The section dividers will depict cer- tain South Side and Lewis and Clark landmarks and will attempt to explain their relationship to the South Side Story as a whole. The Class of 1963 feels it is fitting and proper to dedicate our Tiger to the telling of this Story, as a nostalgic tribute to all that Lewis and Clark always has and always will represent.
