.J 16. l 0 Q1 r ,-l CLASS HISTORY By Helen Hart f3w C HE graduation of the Class of january 20 on the 22nd oi Q ky that month brought to an end the career of one of the most x rfmi active and spirited classes of Lewis and Clark High School From the time that they invaded Lewis and Clark in Janu A 'Q ary 1916 until the present they have been leaders in every school activity 1755 - '. 7.-'Ia '.-331 .. 'I ' .' 4 A nt ' Leaf. W M .cl 1-4 - 1 ,ad ,gg iff ' We ' - - ' gl Walter Neil, the first president, played an important part in bringing jf: it to the front during the first trying semester of high school life. He was succeeded in the fall of '16 by Helen Hart, who was able to gain for jg. the class a prominent place in school affairs. NVith the help of many live Ri' wires in the class a party was held in the school cafeteria, which proved l completely successful in bringing the class together. john Cadigan, who QV had been prominent all through high school as class yell leader, became president during'the Sophomore year and continued in that office until Il? the spring of 1919, when Ray Dean was elected to steer the class, now 3 Senior B's. He captained the IQI8 football team and was a player on 'IJQN the 1919 one which defeated North Central 6-0. The name of Burdette Q4 Fischer, who kicked the two goals in that memorable game, will long be remembered in Lewis and Clark. Earl Tilton's star playing was a fea ture of that game, as was also the work of Ed Smith, the biggest little ffl player on the team. In the fall of 1919 Ray Dean again headed the 'fi' class, everything for the success of the class. Tom Conway, assistant r'-ij yell leader and one time editor-in-chief of The Journal, became a member of the class during this last semester along with Volney Shepard, vxho 1,57 returned from the great war in time to graduate with us. Rosemary Q, Feulner was elected president of the Girls' Athletic Union and also won Vg her way to be leading lady in A Rose o' Plymouth Town. Paul Sou ders played opposite her as leading man, and was ably supported by Cecil Gregg, Ed Smith, Martha Turner, Fred Bethel, Helen Hart, and ' V ill. ' ' . ,Ci - - 1 I' '1 if ' . . ' X9 y . - . . Iohn Cadigan Scholastic honors went to Erskine Orr and Bessie Dragoo, who both maintained an average above Q0 for four years work. Orr also won first honors in Latin seconded by Helen Hart president of the Classical Club Florence McGovern during her Senior B vear was elected editor in chief of The Iournal an honor which is seldom conferred on a girl She has also been exceedingly prominent in other school activities, bring ing much recognition to her class lom Conway Twila Lewis Eleanor Immisch Paul Souders, and Vernon MMM rti have all succ cded in graduating with much credit In three and one half years It has been the good fortune of this class to have as class director Mr Henneford whose spirit and endeavor will long be remembered.
