CLASS HISTORY By HELEN DORMAN In September of I938 forty elght shy llttle boys and glrls walked Into Lewes School to enter the first grade We started our educatlon by learmng the three r s Durlng our hrst few years ln school we vxslted many places of mterest 1n our town Among these places were the tm factory Stam baughs fish pond the Museum lVlemor1al Park Powerhouse our churches dairy and USO Bulldlng where we saw palntlngs that were done by the soldlers and sailors We always made our mothers Chrlstmas presents as art projects We were always glad when holldays came as we would have partles to suxt the OCCHSIOD We finally entered unlor I-hgh School prepared for all the hustle and bustle con nected with the changlng of classes and keeplng of lockers We struggled through the trials of unlor Hlgh School and entered our hrst year ID hrgh school As freshmen the sophomores had a great deal of fun lnltxatlng us The boys were lnltlated outslde of school but the glrls were 1n1t1ated at nlght ID the school audltorlum This was the year many of us started the courses on whlch our careers are dependent In our sophomore year we took Blology whlch was then a requlrecl subject lVlany of us liked this very much Many members of our class were enrolled IH the band chorus and varlous sports Thls was the first year our football team really functloned Mr Hanley our homeroom teacher was new rn our school thls year As Junlors we gave the unlor Senior Prom ln lVlay We used a Spanish scene Qur deco ratlons were very colorful as we had collected a great number of bright red roses We sold soft drinks and hot dogs durmg football season ln order to ralse money for our senlor expenses At the end of the year we acquired the school store from the prewous semors Thev had a great amount of stock left from the year whlch we bought ln September we entered our school as semors Wlth a new dlgnlty behttlng our classl ficatxon We had twenty four people ln our class this year The senlor members of the Press Club published the yearbook called THE BEACON as has been customary for every previous year In lVla5 we gave our class play Lewes Hlgh School w1ll suffer greatly the loss of athletic stars Buddy Cooper Tom Hocker Blll lngram ack Stambaugh Dale Parson Howard lVl1llman and lVlar1anna Walker several falthful voices ln the chorus Betty Glbson and oan Dorman and the thirteen members of our class who belong to the Alpha Chapter of the National Honor Soclety We of the senior class are grateful to our parents and teachers for making It possible for us to arrlve at thls Junction of our educational career CLASS SONG Tune AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL ack Stambaugh Oh beauh ul or rzendshzps made For bonds that ne er wzll breal?
