After studymg the thxrteen colomes ue studied the Industrxes of the Umted States Thev were cotton o1l lron mllk and so forth We got most of our materlal from books We made marxonettes and had a marxonette show The name of the play was Down South vuth the Cotton Plckers Ive also had tvso operettas The first one was Old Pipe and the Dryad We then worked on Rumpelstlltskm and gawe xt Durmg the year we learned new songs and Folk Dances The Polk Dances were records The songs were mostly out of Smgmg Days whlch IS our songbook for school IOSEPHINIL GUERIN GRADES FIVE AND SIX Mlss PRETTX wxAN In our room we haxe two grades the hfth and sxxth There are elght 1n the Hfth grade and thlrteen 1n the svith grade whlch makes The fifth grade has been domg fractlons but now they are domg declmals The slxth grade had quite a blt of trouble wlth fractlons so we started rev1ew1ng Next we worked wxth declmals and now we are domg per centage In the beglnnmg of the year we studxed Mexlco and drew elewen b1g pxctures whlch told the story of Mewxcan hfe Then we de clded to study Delaware YVe drew maps of Delaware blg enough to put ln our notebooks MISS Prettyman read the book called Once Upon a Tlme 1n Delaware whlch we hked very much Next we studled the Hawauan Islands We made an Hawauan scene of Sponges whxch mcluded a vlllage pmeapple held beach and a naxal base Now we are studymg the Umted States and we expect to make a large map and draw pxctures of the products of each state In art we hawe made pottery and done some weaw mg At Chrxstmas txme the gxrls made thelr mother s potholders and the boys made copper foll plaques Vte drd a group of pnctures about wmter and now we are domg a group of Sprmg pnctures and mountmg them Bax Eau How XRTH SIXTH GRADE Mlss FUTCHER We started the vear of '59 40 wlth thnrtv four old members and four new ones I'or the fxrst semester the ofhcers elected were as follows Preslclent B111 Megee Vlce PFCSI dent 1m Rxley Secretary oanne Green spun Treasurer Sarah Carpenter The last half of the year these were the ofllcers Presx dent 1m Rlley WIC6 President Carroll Clrons Secretary Hxlda Howard Treasurer Sarah Carpenter One b1g ex ent of the year was a mmstrel put on for our parents Exeryone seemed t enjoy It Another Important thmg IS our hbrary We elect a hbrarxan and an assxstant each month Our art work thls year was very xnterestmg We haxe done a number of new thmgs One was wood carvmg another was workmg wlth copper foxl One of our most xnterestlng umts 1n hxstory was the slavery problem or the Cxvll War perxod A great deal of art work was done nn connectlon wxth this un1t Our llallowe en Chrxstmas and Valentine partles were blg events of the year Our class dues wnth a few donatlons made xt possnble to have splendid refreshments at all these occasxons SPECIAL CLASS Miss TROH Durmg thls year we accomphshed many thmgs We learned to read better learned more about arxthmetlc and craft work We have made rugs reed baskets shoppmg bags -and clothespm bags YVe had a good t1me at our Halloween party We also had a Valentme and Easter party Mlss Troy taught us how to make candy Easter eggs One of the boys Daw nd Shocklev brought a robxn to our class wxth a broken leg We set xt wlth a toothpnck and adhesxve tape Our teacher read us a story exery noon We hked especlally Treasure Island Gulh wers Traxels The YV1zard of Oz and Pm occh1o , ' . , . . . 1 K , ,' ' , , . . . , .
