Our administrators have guided us in the ways of good citizenship. The superintendent, his assistants, and the Board of Education have given their enthusiastic support to all our endeavors. To these men we express our sincere appreciation. Left to Right: Chris N. Retson, Joseph Luckey, Rev. Claude Allen, Charles E. Daugherty 'and John Davies. They occupy their time with school and social activities. Teachers will long remember the PTA operetta, the gaiety of extra-curricular activities, the seriousness of the orators, the pleasure of math, and the fun at vacations. It was lun all the time, but of course we studied too. l X X ff ff X BO DAVIES P e de t LORAINE ZANDALL Secretary -I ANNE LASKY V P 95d STEVE LOCKE-Treasurer SENIOR CLASS HISTCDRY Our senior year was a busy one. Led by Bob Davies as president, Joanne Lasky as vice-president, Loraine Zandall as secretary, and Steve Locke as treasurer, we completed many projects. We had the very first Homecoming celebration in the history of Lew Wallace. Our senior activities kept us hopping, but we loved every minute of it. There were things like the Senior Reception, Washington Trip, Trips to the Mills, the Prom, Convocation, Baccalaureate and last of all the happiest and yet the saddest clay of our lives, Commencement. Looking back over those wonderful days, we remember the great thrills we had as freshmen. It was decided back in T950 that whatever we did, we would do it in a big way. That's why Don Strimbu was elected president, Charles Ventura, vice-president, Joanne Baker, secretary, and Don Doneff, treasurer. Our first year was highlighted by our dance, The Freshman Swirl and the class play, INDIAN CAPTIVE. As sophomores 'we had the feeling of being upper-lower classmenf' That year we were led by Peter Plazony, president, Dorothy'KouveIas, vice-president, Roberta Mattingly, secretary, and Sam Uzelac, treasurer. We had a wonderful time at the Icicle Spree. Then we were looking forward to our junior year. The year '52-'53 was the year the fairer sex led the class. The girls elected were Roberta Mattingly, president, Donna Pearman, vice-president, Alice Goodpasture, secre- tary, and Peggy Coady, treasurer. The prom was something out of a dream and, as juniors, April 24, T953 was the Lovliest Night of the Year. 'Q fu ' NT' Wm, .am HUB X, Am. ,Aw X ,. I v 7 J a M' 0- Q- 1... BOB SPOLYAR-President JUDY ANDERSON Sr-fri-tary JOE AILEGRETTI-Viiie president JAMES MOPRONI' Tir-usuier JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Only one more year to go! Three years ago, the class at '55 began their freshman year by electing James Tarpo, president of the classy James Fattore, vice president, Carolyn Smith, secretary, and Sandra Jackson, treasurer. The Snowball Jamboree, the freshman party, was a big thrill to all the newcomers in high school, Their play, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, was enjoyed by all who saw it. As sophomores, the fellows and girls decided they wanted an all male cast to lead them. In doing so, they elected Walter Smoot as president, Tom Kennedy as vice' president, James Morrone as secretary, and James Fattore as treasurer. The sophomores enioyed their dance, Sophomore Frolic, which was held on a cold winter night, This year the class of I55 became upper classmen. They chose Robert Spolyar, Joe Allegretti, Judy Anderson, and James Morrone to take the positions of president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, The most exciting night at the year was the prom, It climaxed a year full of fun and treasured memories on May 7. The class of '55 hopes to make the most of their senior year and we are sure it will be the best. The hours the sophomores spent studying brought fine dividends, as is shown by their outstanding record, Starting high-school was a new experience to them. They waded through assign- ments, worried about the things all freshmen worry about and showed good taste when they elected their class otticers. They chose Charles Brown as president, Guy Camarata as vice-president, Karen Wortley as secretary, and Beverly Edwards as treasurer. Activities during their first year in high school included Cupid's Capers, their freshman party, and the annual freshman play, BEST FOOT FORWARD, These activities will always be ranked tops on their school memory hit parade. As the class advanced from freshmen to sophomores they continued their fine record by choosing Scott Polizotto as president, Dick Fox as vice-president, Charlesa Skolds as secretary and Bill Purcell as treasurer ot the class. The climaxing activity ot their second year in Lew Wallace was their Sophomore Hop, which as in preceding years, was a tremendous success. They are about to cross the threshold that leads them into four years of high school life, A new horizon lies before them: one which includes work, study and a great deal of fun! This year's energetic freshmen class started its high school career with flying colors by electing a fine and capable group of officers who have led them through their first year, The class of '57 chose Don Hannah as president, Jay Moore as vice-president, Jackie Mattingly as secretary, and Carolyn Dawson as treasurer. Various activities provided the freshmen with a chance to lose that freshman feeling and get into the swing of thmgs, Girls Club sponsored Freshman Week, which included an Activity Day and Big-Little Sister Sock Dance, giving the Freshies an oppor- tunity to discover the many clubs and get better acquainted with the upper classmen The annual freshman party was also another unforgettable event. The class of '57 had many hidden talents as the Freshman Play, CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN, proved. This play brought the curtain down on their first year in high school. The council and officers hold weekly meetings and discuss their many projects. Every girl in high school is a member of Girls' Club and may participate in all of its yearly activities. Among their projects this year was the annual Freshman Week, which included the popular Sock Dance. The annual Christmas Corsage Sale, the Senior Reception, the Sing, the Birthday Potluck, the Suburban Girls' Club Conference and the annual spring turnclbout dance are iust a few at the outstanding events. Girls' Club also sponsors mass meetings during the year to bring all the high school girls together into one group. The meetings are often devoted to girl meet boy subiects. During the year there is a considerable amount of producing, directing and presenting plays, by, for, and with the members of the class. When the houselights dim and the curtain opens, the students and their sponsor, Miss Beatrice Sandles, know the thrill of presenting a finished production to the Lew Wallace students and community. May l show you to a seat? Seating in the balcony only. These are words frequently spoken by members of the Auditorium Council as they usher at all the different auditorium activities. Ticket taking and ushering in the audi- torium are not their only activities. A potluck supper and a banquet usually are the social highlights of this club. Coach Polly and Coach Black will be counting on some rugged players from this undefeated team to compose their varsity squad next year. The freshman grid team, under the direction of Coach Vern Charlson, fought their way through the season to a victorious ending.
