High School is over, and now there are only mernories left. First we remember the capable officers we chose to lead us through our freshman year. They were Steve Djakovich, president: Mitch Kralis, vice-presi- dent: Linda Goodwin, secretary: and Iudy High, treasurer. At our Iirst high school dance, the Holly Hop, the boys actually danced with the girls. The annual frosh play, Seventeenth Summer, proved that the class of '53 had talent as well as spirit. We remember our sophomore year with Richard Lasky as our second class president, Pat Gabriel was vice-president, Pat Ornich was secretary, and Ralph Mcliann was treasurer. Starlight Fantasy was the ZZ theme of our Sophomore Hop, a never to be forgotten dance. Then came the joy of becoming upperclass' men . Mitch Kralis was our very capable junior class president: Frank Nicksic, vice-president: Nancy Cook, secretary: and Io Macaluso, treasurer. We shall always treasure the memory of the Iunior- Senior Prom and the wonderful magic of that night. We will always remember our Senior class officers-Ioe Zimmerman, president: Io Ann Todd, vice-president: Shirley Weber, secretary: and Mari- lyn Rittenhouse, treasurer. Our Senior activities in- cluded the Reception and Washington trip, the Prom, Baccalaureate, Convocation and Class Day. Looking ack over the history of this year's Juniors, we r call that they chose Don Strimbu as president, C I rles Ventura as vice-president, Ioanne Baker as secretary, and Don Doneff as treasurer to lead them through their freshman year. During that year Ioan Sparks, Cookie Koss, Bob Davies, and lack Cidulka showed their talent as they took the leading parts in their freshman play, Indian Cap- tive . The Freshman dance, as always was also a big success. For leaders their sophomore year, they chose 38 Peter Plazony for president, Dorothy Kouvelas for vice-president, Roberta Mattingly for secretary, and Sam Uzelak for treasurer. lcic1e Spree which was a name well chosen for their sophomore dance, was held on an icy winter night. Another year rolled around and members ot the class of '54 were upperclassmen at last. They chose Roberta Mattingly as president, Donna Pearman as vice-preside-nt, Alice Ann Goodpasture as secretary, and Peggy Coady as treasurer for junior officers. Natur'a11y the highlight of their junior year was the Iunior-Senior Prom held in April. I The Iuniors of today are the Seniors of Tomorrow. This wonderful thought is uppermost in the minds of all the Sopho- mores this year. Only last year, as Freshies, they chose four very deserving classmates to lead them through their first year in high school. These officers included lames Tarpo as president, Iames Fattore as vice-president, Carolyn Smith as secretary, and Sandra Iackson as treasurer. Among their many successful activities was Freshman Week, their Frosh dance, Snowbal1 46 Iamborie . and their unforgettable play, Meet Me In St. Louis. To begin their Sophomore year off on the right foot, they chose Walter Smoot as president of their class, with Tom Kennedy as vice-president, Iames Morrone as secretary, and Iames Fattore as treas- urer. And to climax their exciting sophomore year, they held their Soph Hop on a snowy Ianuary night. Yes, the Class of '55 is well on its way! GUY CAMARATA CHARLES BROWN Vice-President pyesidem WT! KAREN WOHTLEY BEVERLY EDWARDS secfeimy Treasurer Freshman Class Histor The Freshman of '53 started their high school career by electing such competent officers as Charles Brown as president, Guy Camarata as vice-presi- dent, Beverly Edwards as treasurer, and Karen Wort- ley as secretary. Next in the busy year of the freshies came the annual Freshman Week, sponsored by the Girls' Club. The shy boys and the quiet girls seemed to get along very well. On February 6, the freshman party, Cupid's Capers , was held in the main gym. Soft lights and sweet music helped make a memorable evening. Finally, after much hair-pulling and long hours, the freshman play, Best Foot Forward , was pre- sented under the direction of Mrs. Mary Oppman. The show was a howling success. Be patient, ireshies, time will ily and you'll soon be seniors of '56. 53 5 I X ' A - .. r-. .- :L Q 'I f I1 -, rw 'yt w.-1-2 ' P fl A Y fi. :t T223 in 5 : l -an ' L.-6 - A x E f 1 Q, V .F I 'MEF' xx 7 F . 5 y fn ' R 1. 1 -' ,f . ff, 5 9, ,- Q,-'55 JA M V l 51 N Mtv! When the period begins at 2:05, it usually extends late into the niqht. I'm in love with you, Annual. No one else will do, Annual .... so goes the theme song of the 1953 Quill and Blade. Forsaking all others, the Annual staff set out, for better or for worse, to write and de- sign, arrange and put together the first yearly Wallace yearbook-the 1953 Quill and Blade. There's an old saying that two heads are better than one. This was especially true when the heads belonged to our Annual editor, Karen Emmett, and sponsor, Mrs. Kathryn Welsh. For days on end they worked frantically to develop the division pages and complete the dummy, as Miss Marie Edwards, our business manager, sat counting greenbacks far into the night. Meanwhile, To revise or not to revise was the question uppermost in the mind of our copy editor, Donna McColly, as she rushed to and fro collecting new, old, and over-due copy. The slogan of the staff soon became, an editor's work is never done. If you don't believe it, just ask the student picture editors, Arlene Owen, Margie Boone, lackie Kling, and loan Ruggles. Pictures in one hand, and a pencil in the other, they checked and rechecked, arranged and rearranged the pho- tos until they knew the entire student body for- wards, backwards, and inside out, while faculty editor, Catherine Palakovic, raced down the hall to put a last-minute notice on the teachers' bulletin board. Sports editors, loe Zimmerman and Larry Bound, broke all records collecting, rewriting and arranging the sports section. Then to top it all, Sarah Athey. Carolyn Hall, and Mr. George Katz all developed the popular new grey streak in their hair. Could it be that the picture sched- ule had something to do with it? But did we holler or even complain?! Well, if we did, it was only temporary. For believe it or not, out of all this confusion, and work, and many nights after school was born the new Annual, and we proud- ly present it to you today-the 1953 Quill and Blade. l953 QUILL and BLADE SPONSORS I.. to R.: Kathryn Welsh, Publication Class.
