One might see the managing editors making out assignments and collecting them. 'lihey are so- called because everyone wonders how they manage to do it all. .Xt the back of the room is the copy editor. VVitb mussed hair and haggard face she pores over the copy folder. Copy folderu is a loose term referring to a receptacle for all journalistic endeavors of the staff members. Counting words, measuring columns, and chewing fingernails, the page editors set up the individual pages. In a frenz- ied state of mind, one sees the happy circulation managers desperately trying to bring some order out of the chaos of distributing the PHlI.USUl'lll'lR. Our business managers sadly count the dwindling funds. 'lihey are doomed to a life of penny- pinching. Over in one corner is the exchange editor who sends the PI Ill.OSOl'l-RIICR to other schools. As she sits licking hundreds of little pink stamps. thereby poisoning her system with horse-glue. we wonder how much longer she'll last. Our cartoonist gets a free Florida sun-tan by working on the high- powered mimeoscope drawing cartoons. L And so it goes with the staff of the paper. Let us leave you with this last thought, the motto of the staff, Insanity is the best policyfl 70 .. H041 xi XID zff P ? fjx ,jen f J f Q.:- I 'U' ,T ' ' Eg V . . J 11 1 I I ' Q W I ' ' 1 jf' ' - 1 . Teamwork, ability, and determinationa, these three words describe quite fully our eagers of 1950: a team that was rarin' to go out on the floor and play with one goal in mind .... to win that game fairly or lose with good sportsmanship. The season ended with 9 wins against l2 losses. Averages and records meant very little to the llornets throughout the year. Nlany times they entered the game as the underdog and came through with a win and not once did they lose when they were favored. Starting the basketball season at a slow pace. the Hornets steadily climbed to a point where the best of teams feared them. 'llheir sportsmanship displayed was topsg their winning spirit was hard to bcatg their love for the game was unequaled! Take me out to the ball game- for it's one, two, three strikes yer out, at the old ball parkllv What fun and excitement reigns at a base- ball game especially when our own Hornet crew are out on the diamond displaying determination and good sportsmanship. Backed by an excellent pitching staff, a scrappy infield, a good back- stop, and a hard-hitting outfield, the Hornets combined their abilities with teamwork to bring them second in the city championship in three years' competition. This great American sport has in- creased in popularity at Lew Wal- lace. rjneef ghe .jwermen . Splash! Look at them swim! Whether it's the back stroke, Amer- ican crawl, or a fancy swan dive, our Wallace Mermen can do it skilfully. Although many of the experienced swimmers graduated last year. our swimming team took it on the chin throughout the entire season. These' boys never lost their spirit. True defeat never came face to face with the team because they kept on even when all seemed lost. This is the test for true spirit and love of sport. HQ: I ,lr 1 if vi.. if 4 -' .
