Together we began school here in 1%5 and we leave together when you graduate and I retire as superintendent. We depart from the large group of people and places called the Levittown Schools after having shared many common experiences as members of this group. In this thirtieth year of Levittown's existence and twenty-fifth anniversary of Levittown Memorial High School, it is appropriate for me to dwell briefly on the relationship between individuality and community by way of wishing this year's graduates farewell and good luck. Perhaps the poet lohn Dunne expressed this relationship most eloquently in these words. No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main lam involved in Mankind To achieve successful lives as individuals and members of many communities throughout life it is important to remind ourselves constantly that we need to discover our vital connectedness to each and every other person with whom we come into contact. Our practice of the best human qualities, friendliness, consideration, honesty and willingness to become involved in other's lives, enables us to enjoy the benefits of membership in groups and to negotiate the stresses of leaving them when it is time to go I urge you to recollect and examine the best experiences you had in school; discover how they happened; how you contributed to their achievement, and with whom you enjoyed them. You may discover your personal formula for successful participation in the groups in which circumstances will place you and subsequently remove you when it is necessary to graduate from them into new life situations. As you begin to look back in reminiscence and forward in anticipation of the next steps in your journey, so do I also prepare myself to remember the many wonderful and exciting events of these past years in Levittown, even as I consider how to continue the friendships gained here into my future. In this way you and I may graduate to the next phases of our lives confident that we will survive our loss of place by preserving the best aspect of living, our time together with one another. Dr. Robert Neidich Robert Neidich Superintendent of Schools 20

It is truly significant that the class of '78 was destined to be the graduating class as Memorial celebrated its twenty-fifth anni- versary. You were successful in keeping alive the vitality and excitement that was launched by the first graduates at Me- morial. It was easy to recognize a rekindl- ing of the original spirit that was so sym- bolic of our school's early years. The students who enthusiastically sup- ported the revival of the fifties brought a great deal of happiness and nostalgia to all of us who have fond memories of that time which seems too recently to have passed. The spontaneous applause, the smiles and twinkles were evidence of the appreciation for us all to who you gave an opportunity to somewhat relive an exciting part of our past. Your theme was Individuality. Indeed each of you added a personal touch to this school year. Each individual achieve- ment in plays, concerts, sports, and every- day activities added to the totality we proudly call Memorial. We all derived considerable personal satisfaction and well being as we lindyed through 1977- 78. We wish you every success in all your future endeavors. Patrick Walsh Principal 22
