THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES ARE PORTRAYED HEREIN We are awakened by an alarm clock ringing at 6:45; we must explain a failing report card mark; we spend the night studying for five tests. At these times it is the rare person who realizes that someday we will look back longingly to these years. But who of us knows the mem- ories that years hence will echo back to us? Will we remember objects like a school ring, a black panther, a prom bid, or will we remember some intangible response to a certain poem, a scientific theory, or an eccentric math teacher? Whatever we remember, it will most probably be some object or event that brought us enjoyment, laughter, and hap- piness—for in the future these wonderful experiences will greatly over- shadow the ordinary tedious duties of today. Each of us knows that a picture captures only the action of a moment; however, the pictures within this book have the purpose of sustaining memories which will last forever. Every year, three hundred students with various goals leave Levittown Memorial in search of different destinies; yet they will return many times in these halls through the memories that are preserved in the pages of ECHOES. 2

Dear Sir, For years you have been the guiding light be- hind almost all of our school functions. We always found you after school at class meetings, pep rallies, dances, and community projects. If it weren't for you, none of these activities would have been as successful as they were. Yes, those poems were memorized, the vocabulary words defined, and more Rollie the Collie tales told. You taught us to appreciate good humor, bad jokes, fine details and Miniver Cheevy. The love, the advice, and the time you gave to us has been in- valuable in the molding of our characters and personalities. Your joviality, whether twinkling in your eyes or exposed in a hearty laugh, radiated warmth, kindness and understanding. We somehow felt secure and more sure of our- selves in the knowledge of your presence. Without reservation, we, the editors of the yearbook, fully endorse you as the most qualified man to receive this tribute. To you, Mr. Hurley, we dedicate this book . . . ECHOES of '66! 4
