Dear Class of 1963: The present state of the world, with its pleasures and problems, achievements and afflictions, world-wide wonders and woes, may be traced to the activities and efforts of people. . .many people. . .all people. For it is the people who make ultimate decisions in government, politics, industry, science and society. By nature, man is gregarious. He tends to be associated in groups - large and small. People make nations, people make cities, and people make communities. Without people, a bustling metropolis becomes a ghost town, progress in the arts an d sciences is non-existent and the stately symbols of man's mastery over his environment become mute monuments that, too, will soon disappear. To make up what we term people, takes numbers of individuals, each with personal thoughts, experiences and values, and each making significant contributions to the society. This year's graduating class is made up of individuals - each with much value and human worth. Collectively, they become the people of our nation, the defenders of our heritage, the builders of a better tomorrow. In our schools, your schools, and now, your alma mater, we have worked toward raising each person to the highest level of his individual abilities, we have attempted to direct each student in the areas where the most significant contributions to a democratic society may be made, we have tried to inculcate in each person the values, ideals, attitudes and philosophies inherent in the American way of life. i ii During these dark hours in the course of our country's destiny, we have the highest hopes for the future for we have put our faith in you, our nation's people, the citizens of tomorrow. In a school system as vast as ours, the task of administrating it, is indeed a heavy one. In District No. 5, this duty fell to the Board of Education. The meetings were long and the work hard, but these praiseworthy representatives of our community have endeavored to meet the many difficulties they were faced with, and to raising the standard of education for the pupils of District No. 5.
