Sports Editor Photographer Sports Edlt CLOIS CORBIN EDITH MORTON BELVA MOR Art Editor Editor-in-Chief Associate Edl Howdy! Well, here it is. We are happy to give you your l95l El Lobo, the answer to all your questions and the result of nine months of hard labor by the staff. But it has been fun and we hope you like it. lt is our wish that, as you look through the pages of your l95l El Lobo in later years, that the collection of pictures, activities, and written material which you see there will help you to recall happy school days in L. H. S. There is quite a story behind the selection of our theme, which is a comparison between the oldtime ranch-life, an industry upon which lite in West Texas has been built, an d modern school days, upon which your own life is based. After much discussion of themes, the staff was divided exactly in halt, one half arguing for campus, the other, western. Both sides were determined but finally we reached a logical solution: compromise. The compromise' proved to be appropriate, because there are so many would-be cowboys attending L.H.S. If you don't believe it, just look around you and notice the number of boots, levies, and ten gallon hots you see. lt is nice to notice, too, that there is a good reason for so much western atmosphere. For, after all, West Texas was first settled by ranchers of the Old West variety. So we give you our old-time cowpokes and our modern day dudes. We would like to express our appreciation to Weimhold's Printing Company who print- ed our annual and Shugart's who made all class portraits.-THE STAFF. sql'- l .1 ,C i 0 Q Ca- v-, IIIIIJIIIJ I 0 J I J , gi v I .o o TABLE OF In Memoriom - Dedication. - - L.H.S. - - - School Fovorites - Who s Who - Faculty - - Seniors - Juniors - - Sophomores - Activities - Sports - - Advertisements 1, 1,00 v or .4 Z - 0 CONTENTS Q Q Q Q Y 5 Q Q 1 S Q 1 N X M x u N 5 X Q J,,, pl 'll1 I 'iff 111 41111111 1IlIll E i if wa vw-N in lf!!-Oh! I know you have rejoiced, as all of your teachers have, at seeing the completion of our new gymnasium and Industrial Shop and our Vocational Agriculture Department. I know too, that you appreciate, as I have appre- ciated, leadership and inspiration which have come to the student body through the efforts of a very capable staff of teachers and through the activi- ties of your Student Council. I hope that as you studied this year you have become more conscious than ever of the opportunities offered to you as citizens in a democatic society. I hope too, that you are aware of the responsibility resting upon our nation today as the leading nation among all nations which place a high value upon human freedom. I hope that you and all the rest of us can come to appreciate more fully the fact that the United States of America can serve as a leader of the freedom-loving people of the world only by having clear- thinking, well-informed citizens. May the great Lord of all creation help us to accept the challenge fac- ing us today. Sincerely yours, O. W. K' A fascinating game is this pastime being enjoyed by Jim- mie Lou Brown and Dan Houck at the Sock Hop, LHS Christmas party, last December. This swapping match- es game was only one of many enjoyed by all at the successful affair, held in the LHS gym. The winners in the home room Christmas decoration con- test are shown in these three pictures. At the left are Mrs. Ownbey. Martha Hightower, and Ardella Ross. Mrs. 0wnbey's room took third place with their well decorated tree and expertly painted scenes on the blackboards. Lower left are Jimmie, Lou Brown, Mr. Shaw, and Billy Ray Martin. Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, other scenes, and the peace on earth theme gave Mr. Shaw's room second place. Proud as punch of their first place winning room are Dock Sewell, Annette Rawls, and Mrs. Rodenburger.
