LEVELLAND SCHOOLS: 192.4 In 19Z4,Miss Luba jones andMiss Leila Puryear taught a small class of thirty-five students, in the small two room frame house pictured at the left. This was the first school building and the first school term of Levelland. This year with an enrollment of Z,430, a faculty consisting of 104 members, and with twenty school buses running in an area of 224 square miles daily, we, the students of Levelland High School, feel that we may be justly proud of this record. Since 1939, the students and faculty of L.H.S. have received annually a copy of EL. LOBO to preserve the memories of each of these years. This is the eleventh edition of EL. LOBO. It pictures activitie s of the 1949-1950 year in L.H.S. As you who have been at L.H.S. in 1949 -50 thumb through its pages to recall this eventful year, you will not need nor want any other message to remind you of what L.H.S. means to you. The constant loyalty and devotion given to L.H.S. by its students, former students, alumni, faculty and friend is, in the main, the most important factor in the continued growth and suc- cess of our school. This page, hence, takes form as a salute to all who have given his loya lty and devotion in 1949-50, and to all who are making possible a greater LEVELLAND HIGH SCHOOL of TOMOR- ROW. Si To the Students of Levelland High School It has been very gratifying to observe the fine school spirit which has prevailed during your first year in your new building. I think your interest in your work, and your splendid response to the leaders of your various activities are highly commendable. I hope you will find much good has come to you through your studies this year, and that you can remember with pleasure the friends you made in 1950. Sincerely yours, 1 O. W. Marcom, Superintendent My Student Friends, f' a nnual we are sure you recall many many As you look over the pages of this ine , pleasant learning experiences. We know that many opportunities have been made ' d o to former students of Levelland Sen- available to you which have not been ma e s ior High School. These also carry added responsibility and we are proud of the man- ' d the appreciation you have shown for the ner with which you have accepted these an efforts of those who have made this beautiful new building and its facilities avail- ' ' ' t the fact that we were the first to occupy this able. We will long look with pr 1 de o building. Your appr ' ' have cooperated in caring for it. eciation has been manifested in the way you t c hin one something he does not know. It We feel that education is more than ea g means te a ching him to behave as he doe s not behave. It is not teaching him the shapes of letters or the tricks of numbers, and th en leaving him to turn his arith- metic to roguery, and his literature to lust. It means, on the contrary, training him in the perfect exercise and kingly continence of body and soul. It is a painful, con- tinual and difficult work to be done by kindness, by watching, by precept, by praise, and above all - by example. Sincerely yours, lb milk l.,LjXv.,L , , x lib ll A 2 G. C. Blow shaves Bobo while .QM on 3106245 uf Although the Lobos won only five while losing four g am e s this season, they still consider the '49 season as a highly successful one. Only two of the four losses were conference defeats, and only one team, S udan, was able to best the Pack by more than one touchdown, something even mighty Littlefield couldn't do. The bunch had a bad night when they lost to the Sudan Hor- nets by a score of 26-7, but they showed up well in such games as their 32-0 win over Muleshoe, their 33-0 trouncing of Morton, their 38-7 stomping of favored Sundown, their 26-7 downing of class AA Brownfield, and their Z1-12 upset over the Post Antelopes. The highlight of the Lobos' season came when they led the State Champion Littlefield Wild- cats, a solid 26 points favor ite, by 13-6 at the half-time, only to go down fighting to a 20-13 score, when a heavy last half drizzle dr ow ne d out the Lobos' aerial attack. The Littlefield players, after winning the Texas State Class A championship, all voiced the unanimous opinion that the Lobos had comprisedthe stiffest competition of the Wildcats' season. They also stated that they sincerely believed that, had the Lobos won the game and the toss that would have de- cided the resulting tie, they would have easily won over all playoff competition, and the Lobos would be State Champions today! That's quite a tribute coming from those who are inabetter position to know than anyone--The Littlefield Wildcats themselves. Q Q' 'MP' ,H ,V h A 'im hrlkgmhv' Q .. They work out every day, take laps with the 'A' squad, run plays against the heavier, more experienced 'A'team, and the 'A' team seems to walk off with all the glory. These boys won 3 out of 5 game s this season, losing only to the White- face 'A' team, and the Seminole Bees.
