XX IX EDITORS Fred Pearson John Brownlee Pylon Honors Mrs. LoPresti The Pylon is dedicated to Connie LoPresti, Foreign Language Department head and French instructor, an educator with 25 years of service, Aside from her expertise in language and making each class an adventure for students, Mrs. LoPresti is a true citizen of Leuzinger, Her contributions in service to the school, students, and community have made a significant impression on all those who know her, Olympian Horizons are measurable on the scale of life. Graduating seniors look to a hori- zon that's a tableau of challenges. The fledgling underclassmen look to horizons in which their daily lives evolve around Leuzinger. They have an opportunity to accept the challenges presented in their daily pursuits of educationg they seek to better the records of all previous senior classes. Underclassmen face the horizon with a more complex format to consider. Sophomores look to horizons which reflect a kindled interest in Leuzinger High as a com- mimity. And finally the freshmen. They have completed their first year at LHS. The hori- zons of the future hold many things in store for them. Will they make the most of them? Principal James C. Under the leadership of editor-in-chief Vince Aleccia, the first semester editions dealt with the vast amount of apathy on campus. Second se- mester editor Bill Hunsaker continued to analyze the apathy situation at Leuzinger, as well as exploring other pressing problems. Staff activities for the year included the annual Press Day held at El Camino College, a Los Angeles Times tour and banquet, and the twelfth annual All-Centinela Valley Press Banquet honoring student journalists with writing awards. Next year, your senior year, will be the year of decision, What am I going to do with my life in the future ? One should always remember that each new day is the first day of the rest of one's life. It's not easy to make a decision that will set the pattern of the future. There is one thing that must be kept in mind when planning the future, that is, will I be happy in what I plan to do? This above all is the criteria that must be the final judgement that decides your course of action. A sense of being able to say I have made the world a better place in which to live. This is the objective to base a lifetime of work upon, James Kelly The Class 7972 Proudly They Hail. . . The class of '72 has made a definite contribution to Leuzinger and the community through athletics, Fine Arts, academic achieve- ment, and school spirit. The class is quite representative of a cross section of America. It's members are active participants in shaping their destiny -- for the most part, determined to make a positive contribution both as a class, and as individuals. I believe the class of '72 will suc- ceed in both of these roles. Sincerely, Naurine Bennett Assistant Principal Class of '72 James C. Chadwick During the 2 years that I have been a member of our class team, I have been greatly impressed. The dedication and willingness you have shown has been unsurpassed. Your record scholastically, your dis- play of class and school spirit, and your general be- havior have been outstanding. The leadership you have shown has inspired our entire student body. As seniors you will traditionally assure leadership of our school and student body. Accept the challenge. Ac- cept it with the determination and vigor you have in the past and Leuzinger will be second to none, Good luck. May this coming year be an outstanding one for all of you. James C. Chadwick nv! If you so wish, you may look back to rejoice over your triumphs and to look ahead with anticipation and are able to realize that the future is what really matters, then the next two years will bring you the peace and happiness We all search for, Best, Michael Milling The great essentials of happiness are something to do, some- thing to love, and something to hope for. This is an old saying that holds as much truth today as when it was first uttered, You are now at the half-way point in your high school experience, I sincerely hope that these have been happy years and that your junior and senior years will hold much happiness as well, If you have something to do, something to love, and something to hope for, I am sure your last years in high school will indeed be full and happy ones. I wish for each of the members of the Class of '73 these essentials of happiness. M, Boryan J, M, Lockard To the class of '73: Congratulations! Carroll Adams With the conclusion of the Freshman year we of the class of '74 find ourselves at a point of decision in our young lives. We are somewhat in B'-'state of limbo trying to decide if we should channel our attitudes and philosophies toward more positive goals and ob- jectives that will ultimately lead us to level of being a responsible adult and citizen of our com- munity. Or, we could not take the initiative or advantage of the opportunities available to us during the next three years of our high school careers and remain at a stage in our develop- ment that could restrict us from experiencing a most important part of our maturation. This decision has to be weighed and evaluated in the minds of each of us individually and with the resources at our disposal here at Leuzinger we all can be assured of the proper educational and general background that will enable us to attain a more meaningful role in society for future years. 180 ni ' k , , Mr . Robe rt Simpson If our schooling involves only acceptance and use of easy labels, we may see one another as redundant human beings, plastic people, or phonies. If we are learning to make decisions as individuals, and we rec ognize some of the habit, whim and convenience influ- encing our thinking, we have some self awareness. We then might see and try to understand others as human beings. fMr. Simpsonj M rs , Lillian Shambeck New HOFIYOHS Unfold. . 2nd Semester- Back fR to LJ, David Wittenberg, Sue Hendrix, Front fR to LJ, Apryl Gaines, Karen MacLyman, Babette Young IH 'I lst Semester- Back fR to LJ, Rcymundo Rangel, Diana Sharpe. Miss Thompson, 28, taught at LHS since 1963, and as an arts, crafts and ceramics teacher, she made many contributions to the highly successful arts program at Leuzinger. The Fine Arts department has lost a true friend as Miss Thompson's many works of art used in plays and musicals will be sorely missed. . .Also, future seniors may well pay tribute to this fine person as she was one faculty member who laid the ground work for Senior Proms. We will miss herg as a teacher, a colleague, a friend. PISCHEL YEAFHDUKS INC J' ,pl Q ' .Hrs .49 . 4 e I ' f fs 1 0 - 1 , sg 4-SP.: v- 1' 6 4 W 4 l - 'tm Ki . .Q f , , il, .gf ? N .
