Summers Heading our student government are the House of Representatives and Senate. Together they form committees. enforce and check the Honor System which was initiated last year, and grade the campus on its cleanliness. Also the Senate and House Work hand in hand to promote the American Field Service program which enables Leuzinger to receive tvvo exchange students and send one Olympian abroad. The Senate's duties include arranging for the Sports Queen Parade and the Corona- tion Ball, following the Sports Queen elections. Most student body assemblies are planned and carried out by the Senate who see that each assembly is educational as well as interesting. Members of the Senate attend forums and youth meetings to learn of other school governments and new ideas for our student body. W'orking hard, the House encouraged students to donate the largest sum ever collected for the Big 4 Drive. They also toiled many hours in an effort to have a Sports Night as a dedication for the new L.H.S. gymnasium. To aid the A.F.S. pro- gram they went all out to raise a sufficient fund for the Penny a Day Drive as House members eagerly collected pennies for two weeks. These are just a few of the activities sponsored by our student government. as they continually better Leuzinger and manage an excellent system of student organization. il HOUSE OF REPRESEN- TATIVES - Znd Semester. FOREIGN EXCHANGE T DENTS MARIE BERTHEAU Kristianstad, Sweden Reaching hands across the seas is literally what Marie Bertheau from Kristianstad, Sweden, has done this past year. After traveling for many days to reach Olympian- ville, U.S.A., she has served for the 1957-1958 school year as Leuzinger High School's Exchange Student, an honor and privilege which few teenagers are able to achieve. Of her short, yet fulfilling visit, Marie has this to say, It has been a wonderful experience for me to be here this year. I like Leuzinger because it is such a friendly school and I will miss it very much when I have to leave California. But I will take with me many pleasant memories of all of you at Leuzinger. I hope one day to be able to come back and see you all again. Upon return to her home after staying with the Herbertls, who were her foster family, Marie will be able to relate to her fellow countrymen incidents that occured during her stay in the United States. It has been a pleasure having Marie as a teenage ambassador, for she has done a really splendid job which will be remembered by Olympians for a long Xx...JX,,,!7 .3 Q 1' time to come. as ,,, M S s , i f aas sss ,,, ,,al , ,,,, ,,, Q M 1 CARLOS HERRANDO Barcelona, Spain From the land of the bull fights, Carlos Herrando has come to the United States as an American Field Service exchange student from Barcelona, Spain. He has attended Leuzinger High School as a senior, while living at the john R. Richard home in Hawthorne. While here, he has obtained much information about different American traditions and in return has related to us many Spanish customs. As he bids farewell to Olympians, Carlos wishes to express his appreciation, I have enjoyed my year in the United States very much. I especially wish to thank all of the Leuzinger student body, faculty, administra- tors, and student leaders for making my trip so educa- tional and full of many new experiences. I hope that I can return someday and see each of you again, Thank you so much for a wonderful time. It has been very enjoyable having Carlos as an Olympian and we sincerely hope he will have many happy memories of his visit here.
