He ioined the instruction crew as a teacher in the social science de- partment. A His ready humor, genuine interest in young people and his helpfulness quickly gained for him the personal friendship of other teachers and students. He has had other teaching assign- ments at Leuzinger. In 1940 he served as baseball coach of a championship team. The flight here was interrupted August 16, 1945, when Mr. Nyman left to serve Uncle Sam as lieutenant iunior grade in the U. S. Navy. He returned here to resume his pre-scheduled flight on December 11, 1945. February 3, 1946, marked a milestone in the flight as he was appointed to the controls of the newly created position of direc- tor of curriculum and guidance at Leuzinger. Under his direction the counselling and guidance program was organized, with the English and history classes serving as the guidance runway. Many students found their school life happier and more suc- cessful because of the understanding guidance of Mr. Nyman. And so to Mr. Nyman the yearbook staff of 1951 dedicates the air age edition of the Pylon and waves him on to even brighter horizons in the future as principal of the new Hawthorne High School.
