CLARKIN was commissioned as an Ensign in 1953 While attending Columbia Law School after graduation from Villanova College in 1952. He fir st served aboard the USS JUNEAU QC LAA-1195 until July 1955 when he reported to the Staff of the Commander in Chief, Allied Forces, Southern Europe, as Executive Officer of the Communications Organ- ization. From 1957 to 1959 he served as Operations Officer, Navigator, and Acting Executive Officer on the USS SARSFIELD QEDD-8375 and reported in December 1959 as Commanding Officer of the USS SHRIKE QMSC- 2011. In September 1961, LCDR CLARKIN commenced instructing at the U. S. Naval Academy in the Depart- ment of Naval Science and received an MA degree from the George Washington University prior to his detach- ment in January 1964 to report for duty under instruc- tion at the Armed Forces Staff College. In July of 1964 he reported to the USS RIC HARD E. KRAUS QDD-8491, as Executive Officer. On November 5, 1965 LC DR C LARKIN relieved as Commanding Officer, USS LESTER QDE- 1022L LCDR CLARKIN is married to the former Miss Ann Musser PEELOR of Indiana, Pennsylvania. Lieutenant Commander PIOTTI was commissioned an Ensign in 1956, upon graduation from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was then ordered to the U. S. Naval Commu- nications Facility, Port Lyautey, Morocco for duty. He subsequently served as Engineering Officer aboard the destroyers USS MCKEAN CDDR-7845 and USS CUSHING QDD-7975 during the period 1958 - 1960. In November 1960 he was part of the commissioning crew of the USS KING QDLG-105 and served as Weapons Officer, and later as Executive Officer until his detachment in 1963. From 1965 - 1967 he served as Executive Officer, USS RICHARD E. KRAUS fDD-8495. 1 LCDR PIOTTI is a 1964 graduate of the U. S. Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey, He served as Assistant Section Head of the Long Range Weapons Control Branch of the Bureau of Naval Weapons from 1964 - 1965. LCDR PIOTTI has been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V , the China Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Ex- peditionary Medal, the Viet Nam Service Medal, the Navy Expert Pistol and Rifle Medals, and the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal. LCDR PIOTTI a native of Newton, Massachusetts is married to the former Ruth Marie Giroux also of that city. WARE QDD-8655 and served as Electronics Material Officer, CIC Officer, Communications Officer and Operations Officer. In April 1963, he was assigned to Commander Service Force Atlantic Staff as As- sistant Operations Officer and Ship's Scheduler. In September 1964, he was assigned to the Naval Advisory Group, Vietnam, where he served as the Communications Advisor to the Vietnaunese Navy and Junk Force Advisor. In July 1965, he was as- signed to the Naval Amphibious School, Coronado, as a counterinsurgency Instructor. In July 1966, LT Art was ordered to LESTER as the Executive Officer and Navigator. LT Art a native of Celina, Ohio is married to the former Eileen A. Wannemacher also of that city.
