This year the Cards put it all together working as a team to obtain their goal to be conference champions. It is the first conference championship LOHS has received since joining the Maple Leaf Conference, and the first championship in 17 years. Next year the Cards have 7 lettermen returning and hope to continue with another winning season. During this busy school year, the BOAC project was improving the school grounds and building a trash confining area. The FFA also had its annual corn drive and bolt sale. The 9th grade Ag class put on a dairy demonstration for the kindergarten classes. The dairy team placed 1st at the State Fair. At the national convention, the Dairy team placed 24th. The team was made up of Tom Winkels, Tim McCloud and Clarke Nelson. The American Farmer Degree was given to Mark King, and the Honorary American Farmer Degree was given to Mr. Schaufler. At this years district contest the Ag Mechanics team placed 1st with the top 4 individuals, Soils placed 1st, Wildlife 2nd, Farm management 2nd, Meats 4th, Poultry 2nd and General Livestock 3rd. All the teams attended State Convention. At the annual banquet Brenda Wheeler was crowned Chapter Sweetheart. The Star Greenhand award was given to Mark Davis, and the Star Chapter Farmer award was given to Pat Arndorfer. Senator Duane Benson was the speaker for the banquet. In the sumer. Carmen, Jonelle, Cheryl and Julie went to FHA camp. After school started in the fall, we had meetings, a scaventer hunt and a costume party for Halloween. For Christmas we went caroling, then had a party at Julie's house. In February we had FHA week. This included egg day, hat day, security day, Mr. Irresistable day, and red white day. Jay Schwinefus was named Mr. Irresistable. At our meeting that week, Brent Kohn was named Heartcharmer. Also, during the week, we had a Mr. Legs contest to raise money. Our contestants were the A-squad boys basketball team. Jared J. received 1st place, Tom H. 2nd, and Jim E. 3rd. District AAE's were held in March. Julie and LaRae, and Angie and Kirstin received gold awards and continued onto state. Kim, and Jonelle and Lori also attended, and received silver awards. In April, we had a pancake brunch to raise money, and it was well attended.
