Coronation was planned for Monday night so that the king and queen could reign over the week’s activities. These included: Monday Dress Up Day T uesday Hat Day Wednesday Punk Rock Day Thursday Opposite Shoe Day Friday Red and White Day All week we had freshmen initiation. We saw them scrubbing lockers with toothbrushes, wearing bags over their heads and many other unusual things. As always we had the parade Friday afternoon with the game and dance that night. The game proved exciting with LeRoy winning 41-6 over Spring Grove. The night was concluded with a dance, music by Gemini. Class Colors Red And White Class Flower White Carnation With Red Rose Polly Ann Kothenbeutel Theodore Alan Young Foreign Exchange Student 1983 Ana Aurora Maldonado Mendoza To the senior class with thankfulness for all the kindness you have shown me: I wish you the very best now that you finish one part of your education and start another very important part of your future life. I will always remember the nice times I spent with you in class, sports, and having fun. These six months were very important to me because I learned and shared many things with you. I hope to see you again. With best wishes from: Ana Aurora Maldonado Mendoza Thought about ANA by Lynda Hyberger (Lloyd and Lynda were host parents for ANA) To have Ana Aurora as an exchange student was a chance of a lifetime for us. Ana was little in size but mighty in friendship, love, and respect of people. She became a member of the family, school and community because of these qualities. We as parents, learned much about her customs, family and above all her respect of her country, Mexico. She also was willing to learn about our educational system, customs, and took part in many activities. To know Ana, was to love her and to love her was to keep a part of her here in LOHS. We thank the administration, faculty, and students for their support and friendship toward her. YOU ALL WERE GREAT!! 15 Most Organized Eric S. Peg T. Laurie V. Corey F. Rachel C. A1 J. Along with that honor, they were able to compile an overall season record of 13-6. Led by an all-senior starting lineup, they finished second in the Conference and made it to the semifinals in Tournament action where they were defeated by a fine Harmony team. This year also marked the first time that a cardinal girl broke the 1,000 point scoring mark as Laurie Vigum ended her basketball career with 1,022 points. It also was the first time that a cardinal team had 2 players with more than 900 points, with Kris Hanson ending her career with 947 points. Joe and Louise have followed the girls’ teams around for many years now. They have become a very important part of L.O.H.S. The Gilberts have always made it to both the home and away games that they can. Even at away games, Joe and Louise are along enjoying the bus ride. Wherever they are, they cheer us on the best they can. They have also given us many gifts which have been greatly appreciated. It just isn’t the same when the Gilberts aren’t around. They have adopted us as their grandchildren. We have adopted them as our grandparents, too. Win or lose, the Gilberts are always there to congratulate or comfort us. They always have a positive attitude. They want the best for us — their grandchildren. We all hope they will continue the support they have given L.O.H.S. for so many years. It means alot to all of us. We enjoy having them there. They are very special people to us all. We would all like to say: Thank You! It found the Cards winning twice as many games this year as the last two years. It was a year of “ifs” where the Cards lost six games by six points or less. It was a year of growth, and the basketball team learned what it takes to win. On February 7, junior Neil Yost hit the 1,000 point scoring mark for his career. Neil was later named to the KFIL Boys Basketball Team of the Year. The outlook for next year is one of high expectations and plenty of excitement. The team compiled a 9-0 conference record winning the South Eastern Minnesota Conference title, a 10-0 season record beating Spring Valley in a nonconference game, and a 11-1 overall record losing only to the district champion, LaCrescent, in the semi finals of the district. The team was seeded number 1 in the disrict and ranked number 2 in the region behind Wabasha-Kellogg, who was also beat out of the tournament on the same day. It is difficult to single out highlights of an undefeated season, but perhaps the Spring Grove double-header at LeRoy was the sweetest of the wins. We needed at least one of the games to clinch a tie for the title and won the first in a tight 3-2 game then came back with 11-0 shut out to clinch the outright title. It is also difficult to single out individual ball players on a team like this. Surely our seniors provided the leadership necessary to pull the team together. Al, John, Mike, Corey, Jeff, and Daryl have much to be proud of. Our juniors, Jay, Neil, Brad, Dave, and Joe also were team leaders in several categories and underclassmen Brent. Greg, Larry, Deke, and Jay did their part to round out this title team. Congratulations to Coach Doug Wolford and the 1983 Conference Baseball Champions.
