The installation followed a Potluck supper, sponsored by the FHA, for the members and their mothers. The FFA gave the FHA a picnic last Spring which took place at Wildwood Park. Later on they chose Barbara Boe as their FFA Sweetheart. The FHA is a very busy organization. Its members volunteered to fix up the basement of the Public Library so it could be used as a recreation room. This organization is also a charity giving organization. Its members sent a box to CARE overseas for the needy. The FHA also planned many things for the school year. Some of these activities were Christinas Caroling, giving a hay ride for the FFA and a skating party. A dance is also sponsored every year for the high school by this organization. 32 CLASS OFFICERS FRESHMAN CLASS OFFICERS Dale Bergland: Treasurer Jeai Hawkins: Student Council Representative Mary Berg: President Terry Heathmanr Student Council Representative Ronnie Peters: Sergeant at Arms Karen Juvrud: Secretary Gary Austin: Vice President SOPHMORE CLASS OFFICERS Janet Jones: Treasurer Sharon Byrd: President Sharon Lastine: Sergeant at Arms Tom Lawson: Student Council Representative Earl Paulson: Vice President Sherry Milburn: Student Council Representative Owen Ullom: Secretary Denpy Lastine: Vice President Ilene Blum: Treasurer El wood Boe: President Janice Hanna: Sergeant at Arms Danny Larson: Student Council Representative Ronnie Remer: Student Council Representative Keith Forrester: Secretary (absent) 33 JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS TYPING PHY. Thursday night, October 8, was the time of our snake dance and bonfire. The snake dance began at 700 P. M. in front of the school. After the snake dance, a bonfire was held on the football field. There was a short pep fest which included several yells, band numbers, and talks by the football coaches. The Cardinals had a decisive victory at their homecoming game with Adams. The score was h3 to 7. Following the game, there was a homecoming dance with the Nomads Droviding the music. The student body naturally felt that this homecoming was the best ever. To keep the usual curiosity-seekers from coming into the dance uninvited, there will be an hour set aside between the dinner and the dance lor these persons to come and look. No one under 10th grade will be admitted even as a date. Walters and waitresses may bring dates to the dance as long as they are In 10th grade or above. Their conference record was 7-5, and good enough for third place in the Southland Conference. The Cardinals got off to a slow start by winning only three of their first nine games, but then caught fire by winning six of their last nine. The 10 man squad consisted of five seniors, four juniors, and one sophomore. Seniors Ken Schmidt-Considered the backbone of tfce team, Haage showed up as the team s best defense man and having the knack of getting rebounds when they were needed. Ron Leonard-Another mainstay of the team, Ron oroved to be a good rebounder and one of the teams better scorers. Dean Winkies-A fiery competitor. Dean showed a lot of improvement as the season progressed. He proved to be a fine free throw artist. Leo Runde-Although not a starter, Leo proved to be a staunch reserve with a fine attitude. Leo excelled as a capable rebounder. Dick Satre-A first line reserve, Dick was playing his first year of varsity ball and proved to be an aggressive player. His speciality was his -bobble shot. With the two top teams in the conference losing most of their first rate players, it looks like the conference will have a better balance next year. LeRoy s chances will be better than thev have been in recent years. JUNIOR BAND Composed entirely of grade school students in LeRoy and Ostrander, the Junior band yearly makes its mark in the music activities in LeRoy. By the end of the school year the membership rose to thirty-five persons. A concert is presented each spring and an additional concert program is carried on during June and July. A highlight of this yeaA band was the concert at the Ostrander school. LEROY MARCHINO BAND LEROY CARDINALS SWING BAND The rhythms of the polka, two step, dixieland, and cha cha are symbolic of the sound produced by the swing band. Its appearances at pep feats and basketball games plus a guest spot at the local Annual Creamery meeting will round out the year. Along with finding this music enjoyable, the players learn more of the musical heritage of our nation. 56 CLARINET QUARTET Karen Juvrud, Bev Soltau, Eleanor Roe, Carolyn Heathman FLUTE TRIO Irene Nelson, Candy Nymarm, Roberta Martz ENSEMBLES TRUMPET TRIO Qayle Norby, Stan Jacobson, Diane Daily SAXAPHONE QUARTET Richard Lamon, Keith Forrester, Bob Jacobson, Sam Sorenson BRASS SEXTET Back row: Dick Satre, Danny Larson, Terry Lamon, Don Tapp Front rcnn Don Maage, Jean Hawkins. This year I was selected as that lucky girl. Our activities included a parade of over 100 bands, a huge luncheon, several public appearances including a t.v. appearance, and the coronation of the new queen. Each of we queen candidates received a very nice bracelet commemorating our day. The experience is one that I will always remember. I can say that whoever is lucky enough to be selected as band queen this year will have a truly enjoyable day in store for them!
