Of this number 11 are finishing the race in Le Roy High School. They includes Paul Nelson, Joe Hanson, Gary Lamon, Kent Meyers, Ted Backus Laura Hoon, Bonnie Hawkins, Sandra Brownlow, Donna McRoberts, Darlene Malcomson, and Kay Nauman. The people who helped us along the race until 1950 were Mrs. Larson, Mrs. Langehaug, Mrs. Helgeson, Miss Knutson, and Mrs. Sumnicht. Highlights of these years include the Christmas operettas. Mother's Day plays, Christmas and Valentine parties and the treats we received on birthdays. Fond memories bring back a few vivid pictures of those years. Remember the doll furniture and dishes our third grade teacher brought us to play with? The paper dolls we made? In fourth grade it was a mock wedding. I'm sure the handsome Irish lad who performed the ceremony had certainly kissed the Blarney Stone. OH, what a gift of gabl The bride was beautiful, but o-o-o-oh that grooml We never did get to see the clinch. How did it end, Paul? This class also stood out in grade school athletics. In seventh grade we got our first taste of high school life. Mrs. Harriet Hall was our teacher and weren't we proud to have her? We thought we were pretty smart, but we learned didn't we, kids? Our first big money making venture was a candy sale. We made $10. Miss Harris coached us through the eighth grade. Highlights of this year were the girl's sextet, and seventh and eighth grade chorus under the leadership of Mrs. Hall. In English, we first discovered our dramatic talents in two short plays presented to first and second grades. Next comes the year we were initiated. Also the year, under Mr. Riley's able supervision, we had a hayride. We got caught in a hailstorm and ended up getting allwet. The whole school teased us for a week. New People who came in during this year were De Anne Wolthoff, Jim Hale, Carol Lappin, Virginia Patton, Dwight Daniels and Carol Jones. In '53 some of us were honored by being chosen waiters and waitresses at the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Mr. McAfee and Miss Bailie assisted in the initiation of the Freshmen. During the year we added a number of Spring Valley-Ostrander area students to our class. These people were: Ann Simon, Roger Tangen, Dallas Sween, Dick King, Norma Woods, Delores Maloney, Ruth Stephen, Gladys Stevens, Ida Drogsvold, Martha Patterson, Harvey Shaw, Bob Bly, and Paul Eastwold. Our Junior year was the most active in our career. We had a class play, Toung Willing and Able. We also put on the first school carnival in the school for a number of years. Under the able direction of Miss Engleson and Mr. McAfee we staged a stupendous prom on the theme of Stardust . Rose Miller and Gordon Mahoney rejoined us and we added Virgil Oldre and Darlene Clark to our ever growing number. This being our Senior year there are many activities. There is the yearbook, a trip, a class play, all sorts of money-making ventures and the usual round of ball games, concerts, and other extra-curricular activities. People who joined us this year are Carl Schmidt and Les Greenleaf making our number U5. The climax of this long race will come at graduation in June, 1956. During these years, we have had our share of athletes, musical talent, and dramatic artists. A few years from now we will compare our positions then with what they are now and see how much further we have progressed. TED BACKUS What I don't know would make a great book. Boys' Glee Club 1 . He needs the extra money for the cigars he has to pass out. What's thatl? It's a bird} It's a planel NO It's Loren Forrester on the high trapeze. From the Philipines comes the sound of singing. Darlene Clark and her two canaries are singing a duet for their neighbor Ted Backus, who is living off the wealth he gained in sell ing coconut milk to the Californians, because they were sick of orange juice. On the Nevada desert we see Ann Simon and Darlene Malcomson frying eggs on the sidewalk at the entrance of their gold mine. They can't leave it alone for a minute because people are always trying to go in to get souvenirs. Dwight Daniels has captured the roll of Tarzan in Repulsive Pictures. For a role like this, he needs to keep trim; so he hired Gail Kruse to watch his diet and mind leopard skins for him. Les Greenleaf has accepted the large responsibility of making buckshot for the guards' shotguns at Alcatraz. In this undertaking, he has none other than Kay Nauman to help him. Joe Hanson is now an Eskimo in Alaska. So he doesn't get too lonely or starved, he has a neighbor, Martha Patterson, do his cooking and mending for him. He's a hermit, you know. Now we swing back down the coast to Hollywood where we find Norma Woods Mold Form Stud ios, which she started after she won the Miss Mellow Mold of 1956 title. Her hard-working ? models are Ruth Stephen and Gladys Stevens, and what's this? Bob Bly? Yes, it is, and he's complaining because he has to wear those slinky dresses and nose-tickling furs. Also here in Hollywood, we see Margie Miller starring in My Little Margie . Her roommate, Delores Maloney, is soloist on the Fred Waring Show. A roar, a clatter, and a sputter is heard from the direction of Ostrander. Dallas the junk man Sween is collecting junk in his jeep. He buys all his tires from Bonnie Hawkins. Virgil Oldre has just landed in Hawaii on a case. He is now a detective for the Jack Webb Agency. He set out to find what has been causing the current string of earthquakes and no one was more surprised than he to find out it was caused by Vivian Huntley and Gloria Cus ey while figuring out new hula routines. Who polishes Liberace's piano and makes his candles? Why, none other than the capable, Gary Lamon. In Boston the great shorthand professor Gordon Mahoney is conducting a class. He does very well because he knows LaVonne Fortney will have dinner waiting for him at home. Now who appears in a flash of silver and a cloud of dust? Roger Tangen, captain of the professional All Star Footballers. Serving as his housemaid, shoeshiner and part time stand in is Keith Rauch. DeAnne Wolthoff appears next. She's a housewife and a part-time secretary in the thriv ing city of Austin. She's quite exasperated after a hard day at work to find her spouse and two kids waiting for supper. Off to Puerto Rico where we see Ann Runde, married to a Rockerfeller, scolding her bell bqy and chauffeur, Dick King because he goes too slow. Out Cheyenne way there's a big rodeo going on. Coming out of chute 1, is Jim Hale riding Behave Yourself , a very dependable bucker. Sandra Brownlow is standing by as the rodeo's chief nurse and cook. She's got her band-aids and skillet in case of an emergency. In Africa, Carl Schmidt, a missionary to the head-hunters, mops his face, while his assistant, Donna McRoberts, chases away the mosquitoes (they're very fond of that rich Minnesota blood). Pat Cornelius and Sharlene Jacobson are having trouble getting their rocket started, a baby atomic bomb they've borrowed from the Einstein Laboratory, should help them take off. Let's hope it's not too fast. On an uncharted island Ida Mae Drogsvold mounts a throne to become empress. George Gilbert has been shipwrecked on a neighboring island, and they get together once in a while to reminisce about the gay times at L.R.H.S. In Rome, a movie is in production, The Gallant Charioteer starring Janice Ridenour. All of a sudden one of her donkeys falls. What's wrong? He slipped on a dandelion, and buttered his nose. Siren wail, and two heaps whiz past. Yes, it's Le Roy's Boy Wonder mechanic, Kent Meyers, being chased by officer King. Kent's heap has reached 1120 M.P.H. and is, as yet not at full speed. I think these kids have been conspiring To make my work a little more tiring; It to some time for these thoughts to jell. How true this is only time will tell. DeAnne Wolthoff, Paul Eastwold, Connie Beisell, Jerry Helgeson, Orene Stockdale, Bob Miller, Patty Smith, Dick Benson, Ruth Knight, and Joe Hanson were chosen to compete for honors. Tuesday evening, hayracks carried students through the outlying country side. Refreshments were served chuck wagon style in Johnsons' woods. Wednesday the final election was held, and Wednesday evening an ice skating party livened things up on the lake at Wildwood park. Thursday night in the gymnasium, Ruth Knight and Joe Hanson, the Senior Prince and Princess, and Michael Volkart and Karen Smith, the grade school royalty, were crowned. Friday afternoon the parade of various floats with the Le Roy and Adams bands participating was a huge success. Alas, Friday night was a big part of the Winter Olympics. After a victory over arch rival Adams, a dance was held with the Melo Macs providing the music.
