The next big event occured sometime In October when the Junior Class was visited by a man from the Josten Ring Company In Owatonna. He showed us several styles and after much thought and consideration we selected one that was liked by all. When they arrived In November we were assured that we had made a wise oholce. Another Important occasion of our active Junior Claes that I'd like to bring to your attention was the presentation of our Class Play, Crazy but Cute . After much hard work it was presented November 16-17. This was a three-act comedy centered around a typical teen-age home and a guy who had three dates for the same dance. Our year was climaxed by the Junior-Senior Prom. After the delicious banquet our Prom was brought to a close with the traditional dance. Instead of the customary two members from each class and one from each activity, It was cut down to one from each class and one from each activity with an alternate In each case. This year's activities started out by the election of officers with Loren Leslie being elected President, Barbara Madsen, Vice-President, Marlys Iverson, Secretary, and Dorothy Johnson, Treasurer. We took up the writing of a new and revised constitution from where last year's Student Council left off. Having completed this by the middle of December, we began sponsoring all-school parties of which there were several during the school year. Not only were these enjoyed by all, but It also proved that our Student Council has an organization that carries out the student body's wishes. Xes, this year's Student Council can be classified as one of the best In history. Senior Play Cast Row Two: Loren Jacobson, Don Halver, Joanne Coonradt, Loren Leslie, Roger Morse. THE FOOTBALL SEASON OF 1950 This year's football season was a fairly good one, considering the Inexperience and the bad breaks that Coach Haines and his team had. After playing a tough schedule and more experienced teams, the Card grldders wound the season up with a 2 tie, 3 loss, and 3 win record. On the night of September 15, we found a green and Inexperienced team taking the field against a strong and well seasoned eleven from Lime Springs, Iowa. This game was played without a score by either team and bo the score at the final gun was: Le Roy 0 - Lime Springs 0. One week later the same team, having one game under Its belt, met Stewart-vllle on the letter's field. This game found the Cards a much smoother running machine and after trailing by six points at the half, they came back to tie up the powerful northern team 6-6, thus making the record so far for the season: 2 ties, 0 defeats, and 0 wins. Again moving to the opponents field, the Red and White played probably the most heartbreaking game of the year. So far having protected and nursed along a twenty-one game winning streak, the grldders lost to the neighboring town of Adams, 2? - 0. This ended the supremacy of Le Roy football which they possessed for nearly four seasons. Having not recovered from the shock of bitter defeat at the hands of Adams, the team again traveled to the other team's home field, namely that of Mabel. It looked as If the loss the previous week had been erased from the minds of the Cardinals, as they moved right down the field for a tally; however they couldn't find their own after that and Mabel went on to win 7 - 6 In anybody's game. About that time moral was at a depressing low. With homecoming coming up and a 2 - 2 record, the fellows knew that they had to win the game with Grand Meadow, and win they did. The score at the end of the game stood, Le Roy I 5, Grand Me«dow 0. Not only was this a victory In the sense of the word, but It was a moral victory also, mainly because It was the first and most Impressive win of the season. 3tlll riding high on the course of victory, the Card grldders encountered a hard fighting eleven from Iowa. The name of the team was Rlcevllle and Le-Roy went on to victory to the tune of 33 to 7. This was by all means the most outstanding football the boys had played up to date. With the game with Spring Valley coming up, the team practiced with a new zest. Friday, October 20 found the Cardinals at Spring Valley ready and eager to play the Wolves of the rival town. Fighting hard, the Le Roy eleven gained constantly on the ground, only to be bogged down by a weak and faulty passing attack. Outweighed by fourty pounds per man the fellows fell before the hand running opponents. Never did the local team let down, but it was Just a matter of sire. The end of the g°me found the boys beaten but eager to end the season with a victory. Playing what was one of their best games, the Le Roy Cards wound up the season In winning style by trouncing the team from Goodhue by a lb to 7 score. This victory made the record stand at 2 ties, 3 losses, and 3 wins. Although this year wasn't successful In the manner that It has been In the past, it showed that even a green and Inexperienced team who had to fight a-galnst the bad breaks, can turn up a good showing and an even better season. Prospects for next year are better than ever, as only eight lettermen are lost and a whole experienced backfield will return. Those who played their last game for L.R.H.S. Include—Guards, Captain Kermlt Iverson, Dale Weis, and Loren Leslie, Center Pete Triplett—Ends, Don Halver and Roger Morse, Tackle Loren Jacobson and Quarterback Bob Brownlow. Those who will be back for service next year are as follows: Backs— boys who have seen a great deal of tough competition In the Little Seven— Howard Knight, Dick Johnson, Don Anderson, and Keith Larsen; Linemen—Leon Knight, Orville Clark, Jim Hickey, and Russ Robb. Also several who saw action In this year's season and will return are: Obed Jacobson, Roger Jacobson, Jerry Mahoney, Dean Hamlin, Bob Sanderson, Kenneth Hanson, Harlan More, and — ----- — - ' on for First Basketball Squad Row Three: Dean Sanderson, Roger Gerloff, Harlan More, Bob Sanderson, Roger Hopp. Row Two: Coach Haines, Allan Timm, Dean Hamlin, Kenny Hanson, Jerry Mahoney, Bill Blade. Although lacking In height, the Card cagere made up for tills In willpower and skill to make this another successful season for Coach (Doc) Haines and the Cardinals of Le Roy. The fellows got off to a bad start by losing to Spring Valley, Adams, and Rochester Lourdes by scores of 46-27, 55-29, and 51-36 respectively. Then the boys hit their stride and went on to win all but four of their remaining games. Le Rov met Lyle on their home floor and broke the losing string with a 59-48 margin. Next on the list were Elkton, Wykoff, and Spring Valley, who went down in defeat as the Cardinals kept up the pace and rolled on to the Lourdes game. We saw a very hard-fighting home team go down to defeat that night to end the four game winning streak that the Cards had protected. Bouncing back from this, they soon met Grand Meadow which they quickly put Into submission by a 60-24 count. In one of the closest games to be played on a Le Roy floor, the Rose Creek Indians captured a double overtime game with a 48 to 46 score. Probably the most heart-breaking game of the year was played with Adams. While leading at the half by a score of 28-21, the local boys couldn't hang on to the lead and fell short by four points, the score being 49 to 45. The fellows hadn't recovered from that game when they hit Lyle, who was on the rampage. Although playing a good game, the Cardinals again lost, this time by 10 points, 44-34. Wykoff had the unfortunate experience of tangling with a new-splrlt.ed Le Roy squad and came up on the short end of a 30 to 37 tally. Elkton was the next victim by a 46-42 score and Grand Meadow was defeated 51-31 In the last game of the regular season. This ended the season with a eight won and seven lost record. Entering the tournament with the Adams team, the heavy favorites to win the East Sub-District title, the Cardinals took Elkton in the first round and Grand Meadow In the second to win the chance of bumping the neighboring team off In the finale. That le Just what they did and they did a very thorough Job of it too, as they led at half time by a 25-7 score. Still keeping up the pace set In the earlier half of the game, the Cardinals went on to win the title for the second consecutive year by a 46 to 37 margin. This earned them the right to meet Blooming Prairie In the first round of the district matches. Although handicapped by a height disadvantage, the Le Roy cagere put up a good fight only to go down In defeat 67-47. This eliminated Le Roy from the tournaments, but we all can be proud of the Job done this year be Mr. Haines, Mr. Hildebrand, and all the fellows on the team. We must, of course, mention the star player who was Don Halver; however, we can consider all the members of the team stare, because they all did a swell Job of making this year's basketball record one to be proud of. 1.
