Behind a brick in a chink in the wall, Guess what we found—cobwebs and all? An old piece of paper all tattered and torn, Its content a will—quite legally sworn, We read it together and did reminisee And when we read it, it sounded like this: We the LeRoy Seniors of 1949 do hereby bequeath the following to our beloved underclassmen (and Women). Paul Bothun wills his motorcycle to Darlene Wibben for her frequent trips to Austin. He also wills his ability to shoot billiards to Inez Smith. Burley Elliott wills his manly physique to Marie Knode so she can be the bottom of the pyramid now. Mary lou Fister wills her fob as ticket seller at the theater to Fritz Miller unless he would rather be usher! Betty Hanson wills her Norwegion appearance to Leola Roper. Biola Harrington wills her mile walk to school in the morning to Rose Psts ch Priscilla Hoon wills her school board father to Keith Knight. (It might come in handy sometime). Jack Himes wills his slow, ambling stride to Puss Larson. He never seems to get anyplace fast enough. Peder Johnson his prized Model A. to Marvin Winkels to save wear and tear on their Kaiser. Karl Kempe wills his stature to Donna River. A1 Knudson wills his girlish figure to Russ Triplett for use during the next fall's football season. Harold Kurth will his scholarly look to Gerald Forland, James Mahoney wills his interest in Biola Harrington to Lawrence Bantries. Mavis Malcomson wills her interest in Riceville to Ruth Harden. As if she could be more interested? Kay Mielitz wills her five friends from St. Paul to Barbara Hoon. She also wills her ability to fall off a horse the right way to Darlene Hopp. Irene Morse wills her ability to talk herself our of (or into) any sit- uation to Gordon Meyers. Frank Pelley will his appointments behin the L K to Leonard Remer. Wayne Perry wills his chemistry, grammar, and bookkeeping workbooks complete with answer to Mary ou Jensen. I wonder what she will need them for?? Howard Peterson wills his interest in a certain brunette from Spring Valley to Dale Kinter. They would make such a nice couple. Lorraine Prestegard wills Dick's convertable to Don Klassy. Carol L. would love that. Boto Regan wills his janitor's fob to Louise King to keep her occupied in her spare time. Bob also wills his Irish temper to Mary Thoreson, so she can handle her own Irish betterhalf. Lavonne Roe wills her attraction to men to Phyllis Volkart. She really doesn't need that though, does she? Glen Stockdale wills his kitten ball te„m to Lucille Gerloff. The whole senior class wills Glen Stockdale to Carol Langehaug, sincj she seems to prefer small dark men. Oakley Stockdale wills his bass voice to Molly Johnson. Carol Strom wills the Ferst National Band to Shirley Spencer. Frank Watts wills the M del A oupe to Marilyn Thoreson. She probably will get it any way. LaVonne Wolthoff wills her membership in the big 4 to Roy Johnson. Mildred Younker wills her driving skill to Don McGillivray. It might come in handy in his futurecareer as a racer. Con Hovland will his ambition to become a minister -to Toby Spellman. This concludes our last will and testimony and we sincerely hope the future seniors will appreciate the estates entrusted to their keeping. 11'.ynr 7 T r r r f VKivVWr ,'tVi « -rs 4 .vr ttv vtv-t iwy n fts «wr viwf' ¥-v v w v irxwmmm WE BUILD THE LADDER BY WHICH WE CLIMB Rung by rung we build it, The ladder by which we climb. Each rung's been chosen carefully For use at this special time. The first rung is our courage; We chose that one with care, For it's the very foundation Of the things that we will dare. The second rung is hope, The next is Just our dreams, The following two are naturally Unfailing truth and schemes. One rung, of course, is memories For we cannot forget The different things we did, And the many friends we met. We're thinking of the future, And we have naught to fear; For up ahead we behold A future bright and clear. God has helped us this far And will to the end of time. So with his help we're building The ladder by which we climb. I took a walk down the street and bought a paper from the boy on the corner—you certainly can't pick up a newspaper these days without realizing that this lsthe Atomic Age. I started reading the headlines, and recognlxed the name of an lod schoolmate of mine. Wayne Perry, nuclear physicist discovers npw'.uae for atomic power. Old Perrystein himself. Always knew he would make good. President Himes declares National Holiday. Ye3, he was nominated when the public decided he looked like Lincoln. By the way, his secretary, Irene Morse has certainly made a success of her business course. What's this? Someone running competition with Cedric Adams? Why It's Harold Kurth. Must be those new glasses of his. Last year's Nobel Prize winner, none other that Mr. Darwin Larson, has named Priscilla Hoon, a recent graduate from Medical Technology school as his assistant. The famed surgeon, Alfred Knudson, married his little nurse yesterday in New York. Yes, you guessed that It's Carol Strom. What? Boogie woogle in Carnegie Hall. Yes, It's Kathryn Mlelltz. Frank Pelley has just been named Instructor of Agriculture at the college In Ames, Aowa. Con Hovland and his wife, the former Hildreth Hanks have been sent to the wilds of Bongo Bongo as missionaries. Guess r'll turn to the Sports page. Why even here, the class of '49 is Making a name for Itself. Jim Mahoney Is now assistant manager for the St. Louis Cardinals. As Is my custom, I next turned to the adds. Here I saw an ad for Elliott's world's largest web footed frog legs, raised of course, In Bennington. Fresh vegetables for city tables. Kempe's truck farms. Stockdale's best Jet Hellocopters run, of course, by Glenn and Oakley Stockdale. Bakery goods at Watts Bakery, 21 St. Avenue. I was home. In the region of LeRoy the other day and visited many of the other members of the class. Mary lou Fister, now married, recently the toast of Broadway, got her start on dramatic roles in her senior class play, no doubt. Mavis Malcomson Is now working in her own little resturant In Hiceville Iowa with Jubby Gene as Co-owner. I saw Viola Harrington driving down the street here In a two toned Chev. home on vaction no doubt. She is living In Minneapolis. A success In the newspaper field as a reporter. Lorraine Prestegard and LaVonne Roe are both married and living In Chester Iowa. LaVonne Wolthoff is now using her famed voice for lullabies, and Mildred Younker Is working as telephone operator on the west coast. Bob Regan was in his rounds as vacuum cleaner salesman the day I wa3 home Howie Peterson is running the poolhall in Ostrander, still trying to master the art of bottle pool. Pete Hohnson is converting '29 Model A's into rocket cars. Paul Bothun is playing his part in the Atomic World. Did I say playing? Yes, he's stell playing in Gordyls Swing Band in his spare time from the Atomic Rocket Car factory. Last but not least, we find Betty Hanson as a model for the local Petite Shoppe. I think the class has become very successful, don't you? This occurred when a man from Jos tens at Owatonna came to class one day with rings for us to pick from. 'He had a hard time deciding, but finally chose one really beautiful ring. In October we were informed that our class play books, Dear Ruth, had arrived. This play was about a young girl who had written letters to service-men and had signed her older sister's name. It then goes on to tell about the amusing situations they find then-selved in when these soldiers and sailors come hone to see Ruth. Mr. Dain v as our director. In April work began on the Prom. The theme, Moonlight Bay, was decided on and orders were sent for materials. May 21st finally arrived and the beautiful transformation of the gym into a Moonlight Bay was very effective. After a delicious banquet was enjoyed, a program was presented, followed by dancing to Jack Charles' Orchestra. omore I I I I 1 I I I I I I vr« viwiSr tt i . ■ «ww i 5i « w .« ww r. ■■■ ■ itiditii kiii iu FRESHMEN Back Row: Arlo Erie, Orville Clark, Richard Crowe, Hfrold Norman, Eugene , Kicke, Donald Anderson, Howard Knight.
