This year's Panther Staff would like to make a special presentation to a special group within our school. This group has inspired others with their dedication and determination. They have taught that in order to achieve you have to work hard. They have brought out an important part of LHS, a part that is very essential . . . music. They have proven their rare talents to all of us. The Panther Staff would like to show our token of appreciation by dedicating the 1977-78 .yearbook to the Music Department and Mr. Davis, for giving us a part of LHS that seemed so long ago . . . or so far away.

l' 9 C 3 i o n Sometimes fate sends a man of a certain personality to a situation that demands his kind of ambition for his causes, his drive, and his ability to achieve. 'ln the summer of 1965, William E. Bill Langrell took the captain's chair for Lepanto School District and has since been an outstanding school leader, not only in the Lepanto District, but also within the workings of the Arkansas Educational System. He has steadily maintained contact with the state department that has resulted irvuntold benefits. He has struggled successfully in both positive and negative conditions for the betterment of our'school. When Mr. Langrell arrived in Lepanto, the elementary school building had to be completed. For several years the athletic field had not felt the pounding of spikes or heardlthe roar of the cheerleaders and fans. This quickly changed. A much needed remedial reading program for elementary school was instigated. The first art department for junior and senior high school was enthusiastically received by the students and the North Central Association. Expansion of the commercial department was implemented to further serve that group of students. A dream of his for a band for Lepanto School was realized, and today we are all supremely proud of this group. Bill Langrell started the annual Honor Banquet that recognizes and rewards those students who achieve certain academic goals. He has diligently worked with students' needs for academic and athletic scholorships in fields of higher learning. The new gymnasium was a necessity of long standing, and he successfully led that undertaking. Mr. Langrell's wife Jean has taught math here on both junior and senior high levels and has been acclaimed an expert in her field by both district and state associates. They have had their three children: Billy, Jeanne, and Sallie Marie while they've been in our midst. The Langrell family has also been very active in the First Baptist Church through the years. Mr. Langrell, thank you for tangible and intangible efforts and accomplishments. We needed you. We appreciate you. You and your family will carry our love and esteem to your new endeavors.
