Can we ever forget the familiar sound of the passing bell, the bang of lockers in the hall between classes, the incessant clacking of typewriters in room 203, that wonderful Thanksgiving Day victory, or the excitement of working together on the Senior Play? In this book we have recalled our high school life. Our class has shared three precious years at Leonia High School. Now we are leaving, and we must face the future as individuals. We leave regretfully, but confident that our years at L.H.S. have prepared us to meet the challenge ahead successfully. ll, s l g DEDIC TIO We dedicate our yearbook to a man who dur- ing his thirty-three years of service in the Leonia Schools has earned the respect of teachers, par- ents, and students. Known as a gentleman and scholar, a man of the highest standards and ideals, he has been an inspiring influence in thousands of lives. He has also made valuable contributions to his church and his community. In his work as a school administrator, his per- sonal dedication, his enthusiasm, and his sincere interest in student problems have made him a valued counselor. Therefore, we, the class of 1957, proudly and affectionately dedicate this edition of the Leonia Lore to our principal and friend, CARL W. SUTER. ,W gg- . v iv'-we X-'filu-.,, 'wg ' 'N , . CIE CE FICTIO CL B The Science Fiction Club is composed of a group of young men who have an interest in recent scientific developments relating to the exploration and conquest of space. The club meets twice a month to discuss the various readings in this field and the elub's projects. 'lilll' club had several projects, one of which was the establishment of a free-exchange Science Fiction Library. Each of the members contributed his books in the Held and borrowed books that were brought in by other members. A second club project was the building of a 'hlVlodel-3 Stage Roc-ket. . Several club members attended Astronomical and Rocket Society meetings in New York and have reported these meetings at the club discussions. Co-Presidents ...... The team had a core of veterans including eo-eaptains Nat DiGaetano and Charlie Gerth, Willy Van Heertum, Walt Parkyn, Bruce Van Heertnm, Ron Toma- sini, and Dick Klink. Ross M0ttola's club lacked the depth of its larger opponents, however, the Lions did turn in some fine performances, notably the vietory over Lodi. The can- didates are selected by the student body from the ninth grade to the twelfth. Each grade nominates a certain number of girls who they think have the characteristics of a queen. She is to be an active school member, pretty and liked by all. She must have high ideals, and all the qualities which will best represent Leonia High. When the girls are chosen, the student body then votes for six of the twenty nominated. From these six, three are chosen. This year they were Kristin Bergstrom, Lois Bracchi, and Sandy Cole. The candidate with the highest number of votes is Miss L.H.S. Mr. Uniacke is thc only one who knows the winner until the queen is crowned, because he counts the final votes. The president of the Club announces Miss L.H.S. This year's Miss L.H.S., Kristin Bergstrom, has every quality re- quired for the honor. She is a perfect queen, an all-around girl, and MR.
