g J g Bi-District Champs First row: Shanna Todd, Dianna Smith, Jana Tucker, Sheila Broadway, Second row: Juanita Espy, Monica Culling, Eula Keys, and Allecia Flanagan, Coach Ftay Miller The hard working out, the extra hours, and the listening to Coach Miller yell all paid off as the Fighting Tigerettes took the District 16A Basketball Championship title. It was the first time since the 1973-74 school year. Our determined girls beat Cooper 41-40 in a district playoff to take the title. They then won Bi-District by beating Southlake Carroll. The fans were terrific. They supported our Tigerettes all the way, and we deeply appreciate it. When we went to Regional in Denton the whole town came, even if they didn't like basketball. They wanted to see what everyone was talking about. The Tigerettes were up against their toughest opponents all year, the Grandview Zebras. They fought hard and played tough, and with two minutes to go, overcame a sixteen point deficit to come within one point of winning the game. However, there wasn't enough time left on the clock, and the Tigerettes suffered a disappointing 47-44 loss. But we are proud of them. They did a great job all year. We only lost one senior, Sheila Broadway, and the rest of the team will be back next year-tougher than ever. We would also like to congratulate Coach Miller for receiving the Coach of the Year award. Good luck next year! The Tigerettes Made 1980 a Time to Remember! 80
