ROBERT WAGNER End COW-COW EDWARDS Quarterback On October 25 the all-victorious Panama City team was faced by our roaring Lions, who were now at their peak. The Bay High eleven was paced by Basil Drake and John L. Cobb, the Blanchard and Davis of high school football. Wesley Chalk, Sports Editor of the Pensacola paper, through many hours of search and study, figured the Tornadoes exactly 12 touchdowns better than the Lions. Leon, handicapped by the loss of fullback Don Symon in the first quarter, won by a score of 7-6 in the best game of the season. Don Sylnon, Leon fullback, scored from the one-foot line in the last minute of play to bring the Lions from behind to a 19-13 victory over Gainesville. Guy Revell was outstanding on defense for Leon, while Tom Sebring and Leonard Melton stood out on both defense and offense. The Purple Hurricanes- fea- tured a tricky version of the double- wing offense long to be remembered by members of the team. On November 1, in Daytona Beach, Leon won the coveted Northeast Con- ference crown by defeating the Bucs 19-17. In the third quarter of the con- test Captain Tommy Brown received a punt on his 23 yard line, and slip-hipped his way 77 yards for a touchdown.
