DEDICATION ARTHUR SHAROS We, the Class of 1977 think it only proper to dedicate this book of our three years of memories to a man who has dedicated many years to all of us at Leominster High. Not many of us are as familiar with the name Mr. Sharos as we are with the name Arthur. Whether it be a jammed locker, a broken desk, or the break-up of a fight, the solution to the problem is I'll get Arthur.'’ You can be sure you will find him ever ready to come to the rescue. Arthur's presence is even felt at school evening functions where he serves as unofficial bouncer. He has befriended many a Leominster High student with his warm smile and cheery hello. It is for this friendliness and service that we thank him and with this dedication, show our appreciation for all he has done. However throughout all these anges he has never seen the need for any alterations in the basic undation of education. As administrator he has always given the Students the best books, teachers and facilities available. His ride in his job as both teacher and vice- principal was obvious to all those with whom he worked. Although he has Je school to retire to a more leisurely life--well ea as not left our thoughts. As we reflect upor , school years we will remember his smile and soft, proper voice will echo forever through halls of Leominster High. a mn FROM THE FRONT OFFICE PRINCIPAL ALDRICH V. COUSINS It was quite an experience. It is one that you will relive and retell many times in the years to come; how it was when you attended Leominster High School. For many it was a case of arriving in the darkness of morning or leaving in the dark- ness of evening. You had to acquire new study habits as well as cope with a disrupted family life and a fragmented social life. You grumbled about the situation but you were determined to succeed in spite of the space shortages and time differences. The majority of you have achieved your goals. You have brought academic and athletic honors to yours ee and your school because of your desire to excel. You have witnessed the building program that will make it a reality for future students to attend our honored school during a single session. It has certainly been an interesting and re- warding three years. May the coming years bring you success, good health and happiness. God bless you all. Aldrich V. Cousins Principal atime at Sa a nc SCHOOL COMMITTEE, SITTING: Mrs. Holly vomEigen, Mr. John McLaughlin, Mr. Louis Amadio, Mrs. Mary Crowley STANDING: Mr. Edward Johnson, Mr. William DiNardo Although Iam new to Leominster High School this year, I have known most of you since you were in the seventh grade. I have seen you grow and mature and it has been a great source of plea- sure to me to see how well you have handled all of the trying situations you have gone through. I truly believe that you will be able to cope with the future pro- blems you face with style and grace. Good luck and God be with you. Mr. Richard P. LaBelle Congratulations and best wishes to the class of 1977. Although you are following in the shad- ows of the Bicentennial Class of 1976, you have a unique character which sets you apart from all the other classes and which is your mark of distinc- tion. I am referring to your un- stinting contributions of time and energy which have made our school a better and happier place in which to be and work. Your selfless efforts, your in- tegrity, your loyalty, and your enthusiasm will be the legagy of the class of 1977, May you find success and ful- fillment in whatever you do. You will long be remembered by your friends at Leominster High School. Dr. J.D. Moore One of the major ingredients in any recipe for success is attitude. Even though you may have great natural talent and much training, you cannot achieve true success without effort, interest, desire, and enthusiasm-=all part of attitude. Some of you will go through life with the attitude of, That's good enough or That'll do. It is an attitude that says mediocrity is acceptable. It is an attitude that shows no pride, no drive, no sense of value. Others of you will go through life with an attitude of excellence. You will strive to do a better job, to render better service, to do all of which you are capable. I sincerely hope that each of you will main- tain an attitude of excellence and not medi- ocrity as you make your way through life. Dr. Joseph Carol Donald Fredd Teachers have home- work too! nl. . We met-our class advisors, Mr. Siemaszko and Miss Bell, And soon found out that double sessions were a |! Being the youngest ones in school, Obey all seniors,” Was the golden rule. Our football team made US very proud, It was great to be part of an undefeated crowd. It was the year a President had to step down, Don't blame me-=l'm from Mass.” was on bumpers all overtown. The Winter Carnival-- Through the Looking Glass, Was attended by members of every class. The ice-cream smorgasbord was a sticky mess, However it proved to be quite a success. As our sophomore year came to an end, We were looking forward to setting a new trend. In the year nineteen=hundred seventy five, We were Juniors, and for perfection did we strive. We found the session We had to go was early, And over the summer Miss Bell became Mrs. Curley. Early session wasn't all We thought it would-be, Since we got up at whatySeemed like quarter-to-three’. It was the year of the Fonz and Happy Days, And The Lottery won the Interclass Plays. Hundreds of meatballs and lots of spaghetti, Tasted so good when it Was hot and ready¢ Planning the prom was Work as well as fun, And when it finally arrived, we were glad with what we had done, The building referendum looked like a success, When after the finalfecount the vote was YES! Our junior year Went by very fast, As we all looked forward to the Bicentennial blast. In the year ninetee@a=hundted seventy six, The title Senior allowed us neW tricks . We were heads of all the clubs in school, And occasionally wefe expected to break a rule. Once again Sue was President of the class, And we realized how quickly our Senior year would pass. Godspell'' was the Senior Class Play We worked on it hard, ''Day by Day. Applications and SAT! S Upon US Were strewn, All leading to THAT day, the twelfth of June. As our high School years ended, we were very sad, But we'll always remember the good times.we had. Mery! Kornitsky MORE THAN JUST ADVISORS... Three years ago when the young soph- omores called the Class of 1977 entered Leominster High School they were encouraged by the enthusiasm of two people--our class advisors. Mrs. Curley and Mr. Siemaszko spent an endless amount of effort and time creating, arranging and carrying out the many activities put on in the past few years. During these years they have become more than just advisors, they have become our friends. From the first disorganized class meeting to our final graduation day; through all the good times and bad times, they have stood by our side. Mrs. Curley and Mr. Siemaszko can be sure that their devotion to our class will be forever appreciated. Thank-you for being there, The Class cteaves Susan Olivier--treasurer; Steven DiGeronimo--vice-presi- dent; Susan Duffy--president; Brenda Parmenter--secretary Instead of saying farewell, | would like to welcome the class of '77 to the future. This is our beginning. The time has come to open new doors and seek wider horizons. One stage of our lives has ended while yet another is waiting to be discovered. It is up to us to open these doors and develop our potential to the fullest, for we will become only what we make of ourselves. The experiences and friendships we have gained during these high school years will serve as the foundation for our lives ahead. What is built upon this base depends upon the goals and desires of each individual. Thank you for letting me be a part of these years, they will be ones I'll always remember. There's a lot more to it than just looking at photograps. You have done a good job and you should be proud of all your long hard work. All those long hours and late nights in Rm. 206 and vacations and weekends at Amy's house seem worth it now, don't they? There are many people I should acknowledge for all the things they did for this book, but there just isn't enough room to mention all those involved. Special recog- nition should go to Darlene and David for their artistic talents, John for always managing to get those last minute photos, Sandy and Pam for their work on the color section, Chris for the trade section, Marcia for her work on the underclassmen section, and Marisa and Sue for running around checking on all the details of write-ups, layouts, and identifi- cations of people in pictures. Fi- nally, I must recognize Amy for co-ordinating this whole book and tying all those loose ends together. Thanks for a tremendous experience. Jane 100 One day last June a small group of juniors sat together in Room 206 brainstorming ideas fora yearbook. Believe it or not, one year later these Seniors, the Magnet Editorial Staff, have pro- duced a terrific yea rbook. Many long hours were spent working at the school, the only touch with reality being Dunkin Donuts. All members of the staff deserve to be thanked for the great job done on our yearbook. Seniors were well rewarded for their long re- hearsals and tireless efforts with two full house pro- ductions on December 10 and 11, 1976. The cast managed to make 'Godspell an emotional exchange between actors and audience. Spirits ran high as the audience viewed moving scenes such as the Baptism, the Prodigal Son, the tearful Good-bye, and heard the rousing musical scores of All For The Best, You Are The Light of The World, and O Bless the Lord, to mention a few. SEASON | For the first time in several years the L.H.S. soccer team started off with a losing record. With only four seniors, Mike Ringer, Tony Charielle, Mark Mullaney, and Terry Mullan to lead the way the odds were against us. It wasn't until their twelfth game that the booters pulled their wins ahead of their losses to bring their record to 7-5. The team finished strong, winning 5 and tying 1 out of the last 6 games. Their fine play earned them a berth in the District III playoffs. The Devils fared well against Wachu- sett winning a tough game 1-0. In the second game the Devils bowed 3-2 toa strong St. John's team. Earlier in the season the booters had lost by decisive scores to St. John's and the playoff game showed the team's tremendous improvement. Goalie Tony Crane along with a strong defensive line that included Charielle, Ringer, and Tony Perez allowed an average of only two goals per game. The offensive line led by Randy Saudelli, I] Chul Ahn, and Bob Eagle were equally strong in scoring goals. With Emile Johnson's coaching the team overcame the odds and proved what a strong team effort can do. Two of the losses were in overtime games. Coach Ron Mazzaferro praised the overall enthusiasm, player sacrifice, and hard work during practice as the major ingredi- ents contributing to the team's successful performance through- out the remaining eleven games. After losing four out of five starters from last year's District Bound Tournament Team it took the leadership of seniors Danny Cur ley, Steve DiGero- nimo, Mark Gasbarro, and Lou Lelli along with much improved juniors Scott Bigelow, Ron La- voie, and John Levesque to make the team jell so well the second half of the season and gain a hard earned record of 11-11 for the season. The most rewarding victory of the season came over rival St. Beanard's at the Fitchburg High gym by a big 85-66 trouncing followed by another win athome to the same team by a 75-48 score. Another big win to remember was defeating Wachusett Regional on their home court late in the season by a 77-49 score. The season ended in what Coach Mazza- ferro said: The way it should have, by a big victory that allowed the seniors to go out the way they played all year-ass winners. No way would Curley, DiGeronimo, Gasberro, and Lelli go out with a losing record. They certainly wouldn't go out with a losers as they walloped Marlboro 68-50. His association with L.T.H.S. over the past years has reflected an attitude of co-opera- tion, assistance, and concern for all stu- dents with very little asked in return. Mr. Mooney joined the L. T.H.S. teaching staff in 1952 as a carpentry teacher. His pre- sent position as co-op co-ordinator en- ables him to provide students with on the job training. The co-op program was in- stituted to provide students with a basic understanding of industry and a working! environment. Mr. Mooney has devoted a great deal of personal time to this program with success of the students in mind. The class of '77 honors not only an ex- cellent teacher and co-op co-ordinator, but a very special friend and advisor we are able to call upon in times of need. We wish. to thank Mr. Mooney in this way because words could not say enough for the many things he has done and for his deep con- cern for each and everyone of his students. Sincerely, GEASS. 0 Raga, 168 As you go forward into the world or work, life and living, may you con- stantly be aware of the quality and quantity of your education that will affect your daily challenges. Whether your education was in the academic or trade section remember that in the final analysis all edu- cation is occupational to some ex- tent. Now more than ever, he who has a trade, has an estate. May you face life's challenges with confidence and humility remembering that the true spirit of liberty is that spirit which is not too sure that it is right. Robert T.
