MR. KUCHARSKI Prom the Principal What thoughts are in the minds of a high school graduate who looks forward to assum- ing adult responsibilities in a world where tre- mendous events are taking place daily and even more tremendous events are predicted for tomorrow? We are told that we must have more skilled scientists in order that the United States of America may not find itself at the mercy of enemies wielding weapons of unimagined destructive power, nor be left behind in the race to conquer space. Perhaps some of you will contribute to our scientific know-how and make us very proud of you. Obviously, however, not all of you will qualify for this type of service to your country. May ! suggest a contribution that all of you can make? “Thou shalt love thy neigh- bor as thyself.” Obedience to that command- ment could effect greater wonders in the world than anything science can achieve. Let no prejudice take root in your own thoughts. Seek to understand people close to you and the distant people of the world. Want for all men the good things you want for your- self. Having first made sure that in thought and deed you have made yourself worthy of peace and prosperity, pray for these things for the whole world. “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams a4 of,” Tennyson said. Against the forces that threaten the world with destruction, let us set the greater force in the power of prayer.
