My administration began as you embarked upon your high school careers. What I achieved in these first three years as principal will be known ten or twenty years from now when I hear good reports of you or feel the good effects in the community of your participation in its affairs. You have begun well, for your class projects have been such as to win respect from your teachers and to inspire the underclassmen to try to follow your good example. Each year the graduating class, singing our Alma Mater song, expresses its gratitude for the benefits derived from its high school years. This year, when you sing “for faith can never know regret,’ I shall take it as your pledge that the faith I have in you is well founded. May your future lives fulfill the highest ex- pectations of your teachers and your parents and your own true selves. CLASS HISTORY As we glance into the mirror which reflects our sophomore year, we are able to recapture every moment of that first September day. Timid, yet eager, we passed through the initiation by the seniors, and through the traditional five-min- ute speeches. Along with the less pleasant activities, we had our share of mem- orable gay times, such as our Sophomore party given by the Junior Class. To direct us through our first year, we selected as our leaders: President, George Dinsmore; Vice President, Barbara Allain; Secretary, Carole Breau; and Treasurer, Dorothea Baldridge. We had the privilege of participating in the Winter Carnival Events. Yes, we had gotten off to a good start; one which would form the foundation for the two years yet to come. After a much needed and greatly appreciated summer vacation, our class was re-united at “Old Leominster High.” As the year progressed, our first feat was those five minute speeches. Our class was honored to have Honey Meyer awarded first prize when she spoke on “America.” In order to keep our class active, we chose very capable class officers. They were: President, Francis Novak; Vice President, Barbara Allain; Secretary, Carole Breau; and Treasurer, Dorothea Daldridge. Now that we were off to an excellent start, we prepared for the annual spaghetti supper, which was a great success. Every year, girls in the Junior Class have the opportunity to try out for cheer- leading, and the junior girls in our class were no exception. Although many tried out, only four could be chosen. They were: Carol Deitzel, Joan Derby, Carol Tata, and Pat Toolin. At the end of the year Pat Toolin was chosen the leader for the following year. She, along with the other girls, helped to cheer our players on to their many victories. The Junior-Senior Prom was held at the City Hall Auditorium and was at- tended by many couples. Our Junior Assembly, which we spent many hours and minutes preparing for, proved to be very entertaining to all. It was a cold, rainy day during May that some members of the Junior class boarded a chartered bus for what we hoped would be a sunny, warm day for our class picnic at Crane’s Beach in Ipswich, Mass. As we rode merrily on our way, singing gaily, we never dreamed of the misfortune that lay ahead of us. As the bus entered Shirley, Mass., a car came down a side street and skidded into the bus. If it hadn’t been for the capable and efficient bus driver, we might not be here to tell about this mishap. The bus hit a tree and knocked down a fire hydrant which sent water in all directions. Luckily, no one was hurt, so we continued to our destination. Although the weather was cold, we all took advantage of the trip by swimming and touring the beach. Later in the afternoon, it became warm and sunny, which made our journey home a pleasant one. This certainly was a trip to remember. 42 In September we returned to the “Hill” for our last and most memorable year. Our first and most important event was the election of class officers. The elections proved to be very successful with Francis Novak as President; Guilio Greco as Vive President; Carole Breau as Secretary; and Dorothea Baldridge as Treasurer. Together the class and officers planned a most successful Spaghetti Supper. After our fourth straight football victory over Fitchburg on Thanksgiving Day, there was an outstanding victory dance sponsored by T.A.G. Much enthusi- asm was shown since it was Coach Broderick’s twenty-fifth year as coach of LHS football teams. Trophies were awarded to Ronald LeBlanc, lineman, and Fran Novak, quarterback, for outstanding play in the Thanksgiving game. Our carefully-planned Senior Assembly certainly was something to see. Some of the girls started the ball rolling with an introductory dance and song. Talent or no talent, we had fun entertaining our classmates. The Winter Carnival was a great success, even though we did not have snow for the ski and sculpturing events. Skating events were held at Roaches Pond with the traditional hockey game played between the Junior and Senior Boys. Of course it was won by the upper class. It was quite a rough game, and we might add there was a bit of blood shed but no serious injuries. The figure skating con- test for the girls was won by Ann Wheeler, Junior; Sally Fish, Junior; and Joanne Skinner, Senior. After the events we were all ready for the “big night” — The Carnival Ball. The auditorium which had been decorated by the Junior and Senior girls glittered 43 with snow flakes, the crystal ball, and numerous other decorations. The couples danced to the music of Frankie Dee’s orchestra until the crowning of the king and queen. The king, Ernest Sawin, and his queen, Dorothea Baldridge, followed by their attendants Patricia Toolin and George Dinsmore, and Barbara Allain and Nick Mascis, marched to the song “We Will Have These Moments to Remember.” After the crowning, the court waltzed a set while all watched with admiration. Following the coronation, all joined in the grand march. But, of course, all good times must come to an end, and we retired to our favorite eating spots to complete the fun. For our final activity together, our class chose to produce two Spanish plays, both with a double cast of characters. On April 25 and 27 “A Morning In May” and “The Professor Had Eight Daughters” were presented at the May A. Gallag- her Junior High School. Both plays, with all the hard work on the part of everyone, proved successful in every way. The Senior-Junior prom was held in May and everyone who attended could never forget the marvelous time he had. This was our last social event before graduation and always to be remembered. Three years ago we entered to learn; and now we are prepared to go out into the world to serve. The knowledge we have gained is ready to be put to worthy use. As we all take our separate paths, our memories of the “Hill” will long endure. The carnival began with a hockey game at Roach’s pond in which the Junior and Senior boys took part. On the same program was a figure skating contest for the girls. The highlight of our carnival was the semi-formal ball sponsored by the Student Cabinet. A few days be- forehand, the student body elected Dorothea Baldridge and Ernest Sawin as King and Queen. Chosen as their attendants were Barbara Allain, Patricia Toolin, Nich- olas Mascis, and George Dinsmore. During the evening, Mr. Kucharski, our principal, crowned the King and Queen. Trophies were awarded the winners by Mrs. Patricia: Pothier. Ann Wheeler, a member of the Junior Class, won the figure skating contest. Francis Novak accepted the trophy for the hockey contest in behalf of the Sen- ior Class. A grand march, led by the King, Queen, and court as well as the officers of the Junior and Senior Class, term- inated our second semi-formal Winter Carnival Ball. we Lt, First row, left to right: Matthew Camardella, Robert Morgan, Richard Newell, William Sargent, Richard Lanza, Ernest Sawin, Francis Novak, Donald Joseph, George Dinsmore, Nicholas Mascis, Peter Drury, Robert McHugh, Ronald Le- Frank Armillotti, Francis Mag iocotti, Thomas Thomas, Leo Brennan, Assistant Coach; Carmine Picucci, Assistant Coach; Charles Broderick, Coach. LHS FOOTBALL SEASON — 1955 Although the Blue and White Gridders had a rather disheartening season, due proportionately to injuries to key players, they exploited their various and excep- tional abilities to the fullest in their m ost important game of the season — the annual Thanksgiving Day game with arch rival, Fitchburg. They triumphed bril- liantly by accumulating six touchdowns and won very convincingly, 39 to 7.
