Bee! mambo - aa THE INSTRUCTORS Our teachers are as much a part of our miniature com- munity as is the building itself. It is mostly through their efforts that we become good citizens, for they are not only educators, but counselors and friends when the need occurs. They are a fine group of teachers, and we will long remember and appreciate their trials and tribulations connected with the instruction of youth.

Dwight S. Davis Massachusetts State—B. Sc. Harvard—Ed.M. Principal Skiing, tennis and bi- cycling have filled Mr. Davis’ few spare moments in the past. He now enjoys historical novels and is an ardent fan of Kenneth Roberts. His favorite hobby is color photography. We appreciate the kind help which he is always ready to give, and his un- derstanding ways. Miss Lucile Brown New England Conservatory of Music Head of the Music Department Music Se aeepi Singing, Orchestra ‘The Thursday Stings have not been the same without the familiar face of Miss Brown directing the student body. She ha of absence, but we know that in the near future she will return to us with her pleasing smile of encourage- ment. Miss Elizabeth Colley Wheaton College—A.B. Boston University—M.A. Head of English Dept. English Miss Colley is not only an excellent instructor in the study of English, but a teacher with an outstanding personality. Whether teach- ing an English class or cook- ing her favorite meal, Miss Colley always has a cheery smile and a friendly word for all. She is the originator of our Better Speech and Poetry Reading Contests, and she gave our school the idea of contributing a week- ly news page to the local paper. sbeenon leave © John H. Assistant Principal Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry Mr. Coburn is an excel- lent teacher with many fine attributes, being pleasant, understanding, and most helpful to all students. His knowledge of mathematics is a reflection of his college pursuits. A confirming fact of his ability is that he successfully completed a four-year course of study at Harvard College in thres years. Elmer J. Bucknell Syracuse University B.S.A. Harvard—Ed.M. Head of the Science Dept. Chemistry and Physics To be a successful teacher of chemistry, one must pos- sess the following quali- fications: 1. Knowledge—To an- swer Anne Cohen's ques- tions. 2. Ambition—To carry on after that Period A Class. 3. Nerve-To go into Lab period with the girls. 4. Patience—To cope with a group like Period F chemistry. And Mr. them all. Bucknell has Daniel Darney Massachusetts School of Art Supervisor of Manual Arts and Freehand Drawing Mechanical Drawing Mr. Darney, known for his extensive collection of rings acquired in many foreign countries, is an author of some repute. He has written Mexcian Travels, South America Travel Notes: Volume one, North and East Coasts; Volume two, West Coast. His presence on our staff adds greatly to the esteem in which our school is held Miss Frances Lockey Smith—A.B. Harvard—Ed.M. Dean of Girls Head of the Department of Foreign Languages—Latin Miss Lockey, one of our best loved teachers, likes to travel. She always re- me mbers her Latin classes by sending them postcards written in Latin. We'll never forget how much she has helped us during our school years. Mrs. Miriam L. Bucknell Bates College—A.B. Boston University—M.A. Sorbonne French Mrs. Bucknell has a great love for French. Parlez-vous Francais? Though half English, half Dutch, she is really French at heart. Her favorite sports are swim- ming and talking French. Her better half—well, she cooks to make him happy. Her interest in her pupils and her charming manner sare made her well liked by all. Everett Donnelly Holy Cross—A.B. Clark University—A.M. Head of the Social Science Department Geography and History Mr. Donnelly is a well liked person at Leominster High. He is especially popular because of his aid in securing and introducing the films for the assembly periods. In his classroom, there is “never a dull moment” for the pupil or the teacher. Charles Broderick URSNGeE——Beo: Head Coach “Coach,” recently made head of all physical educa- tion in Leominster, has been leading our football and basketball teams against the foe for many years. He seems to have a way with the fellows, is very fair in choosing the members for his teams, and is well liked by all. Miss Helen Burnham Tufts—B.A. Biology Miss Burnham helped in the establishment of the Girl Scouts’ Nature Museum and is on their program committee. Inside our school, Miss Burnham helped to establish our Thursday Morning Sings. Her sincere, helpful at- titude has given a great boost to all her students. Mr. Percy Dunlop Boston University—B.B.A. Business Science and English Mr. Dunlop is a new ad- dition to our faculty. Other than music, his specialty, he has a great many interests, ranging from sports to radio programs. We are very glad to have Mr. Dunlop at L. H. S., and we are especi- ally looking forward to ‘his musical assembly.
