Preparing for the annual art and class- work exhibit In connec- tion with the spring con- cert was fun for the class who vied wit! other grades to attract visit- ors1 attention. Two halves make a wnole. Their first year as Young Citizens Lea- guers has taught the fifth graders much about conducting meetings.Practlcing for the carni- val program and putting on their part in it was a highlight of the year.Playing in begin- ners band was another first for some class members.Fifth graders were leaders in rooting loud and long for Pirate teams. Front row: Glenn Jakober, Sharon Kamm, Judith Kranzler,Kenneth Schaible and Leon Leberman • fiooti Pn jxasie. % fjoi+i Cnetu Boots polish up their papers Emptying their pails of Boot polish to make room for tne water they111 use in swabbing the decks as freshmen, the eighth graders reviewed, polished up, and added to their scholastic training, enjoyed their last year of Y.C.L., pro- duced a paper called Junior High Lights, planned ciass parties,took part in music and sports,and played a hard game of soft ball when weather permitted. Stars guided the Three Wise Men, too. SEVENTH GRADE A series of new music books which will be used throughout the grades made the seventh graders happy,too. Records accompany the books, and four record players were purchased for the grades with carnival funds. Seventh graders were proud to see their candidates, Leta Ehley and Robert Hehn, crowned carnival prin- cess and prince. The first three classes of boots enjoyed a period of gym each week this year under the supervi- sion of their teachers. Marching and folk-dancing were two of their favor- ite activities. The high- est class scholastically on the first floor, the third graders look for- ward to gaining the upper deck next year. Fourth grade boys receiv- ed their first taste of formal basketball after practicing only on the outdoor court before. New fields of study and var- ious sand-table projects awakened new Interests, This class is the only one In which all girls took part in the grade baton twirling practice and performed at basket- ball games. And then what happened?
