Who 0 the shlek? - Who' 0 the singer? - Hoeft • - N oml Lubner Alma Elchelberg Shirley Swanson In the fall of 1945, twenty-five slAw-wltted freshles came furtively up the steps of a higher Institution of learning called Leola High School and survived the Initiation dealt by the sophomore class. They struggled through this first year of work under their Instructors with the guidance of their sponsor, Mrs. Wavne Schuchardt. The officers of the class were: President-Martin Haase, Vlce- Presldent-Dorothy Mack, Secretary-Marcella Balliet, Treasurer-Shlrley Swanson, and Student Council Representatives-Helen Albrecht and Stanley Kelm. In September, 1946, twenty-eight flighty Sophomores competently resumed their studies with Mr. Lloyd Turnwall as their advisor. Officers were: President— Luella Breltag, Vice-President-Jullann Kline, Secretary-Audrey Crouch, Treasurer Delphia Rueb, and Student Council Representatives-Joanne Opp and Monte Goodrich. At the beginning of the Junior year, twenty-six of these fore-running soph- omores returned to take over. Many honors were awarded to this class. Martin Kulm and Alma Elchelberg were chosen as pirate king and queen, and reigned over Pirates' Day, where the Junior float, The Old Lamp Lighter won the first prize.. The three declamation winners Helen Albrecht, Joyce Opp, and Joanne Opp, were all Juniors. Other highlights of the year were the class play, Gay , and the Junior-Senior banquit and prom. The officers of this class were: President-Alma Elchelberg, Vlce-Presldent-Helen Albrecht, Secretary-Joan Farley, and Treasurer- Ramona Horst. Student Council Representatives were Audrey Crouch and Martin Kulm. In the fall of 1948, twenty-four twitterpated seniors with a dignified air about them, returned to complete their high school education. The class was again honored by having all declamation and vocal winners In the high school In their number. Boyce Opp was chosen as queen for Pirates' day, and the Senior float, Love Makes the World Go Around , was awarded first place. The play, The Angel of Red Canyon was given in April. Mr. Turnwall was again the sporor of this Class. Officers were: PreBldent-Maroella Balliet, Vice-President—Monte Goodrich, Secretary-Luella Breltag, Treasurer-Joyce Opp, and Student Council Representatives-Alma Elchelberg and Leslie Hoff.
