Kids Everywhere study center, with 100 students doing 200 different things , (nobody studies , it ' s not finals day) and Mrs . Osborn who has her detention notes handy, of course; and then a bunch of just regular classes like history, English or math. Oh well, Project Period ' s only 2 hours away. Act 111 is several hours later in the cafeteria. The noise is deafening. Kids are everywhere, talking. Many line up at the counter to buy their goodies for milk break or just to see what ' s on the menu for lunch. German club has their little donut stand up with swarms of donut fans milling around . Then, another bell and slowly the halls empty. Students go on to their next classes, one or two hours away from lunch. (Boy, can ' t wait til I ' m a Senior, they never have to stand in long lines for their lunch -senior privilege and all that) . After lunch just a couple more classes or nap time and then it ' s over for another day . Final announcements, bell, mass exodus . Buses lining the sidewalk fill rapidly as the students scramble aboard to get the seats they want. Juniors and seniors hurry to their cars to clear the parking lot before the buses begin to roll out . Some stay often for practice , or make up work, then home to study or to work, or to a friend ' s house to watch the new Mickey Mouse Club. Lights dim, a hush descends, day is done. Cut. Sense Of Community Act IV opens on a crisp early fall evening, lots of people, a bonfire. It ' s Homecoming -and everyone comes back for an evening of football and reunions , a sense of community. The football scene was repeated many times that fall, climaxing with a victory over arch- rival Woodlan. It was a dream come true for L . H . S . fans . Next scene, it ' s snowing outside. Inside there are changes: set curfew times , and new dress styles like gauchos and boots . Action was provided by the incense bomber who hit time and again, setting firecrackers off in lockers and restrooms . He very narrowly missed causing serious injury and damage. No warning except the odor of incense when he was ready to strike again. And outside it was still snowing. The community had its share of disasters , too. Souder ' s Warehouse and Grabill Hardware burned down in a spectacular pre-dawn fire. Then, less than a month later, two other businesses on the same block, Napa and Grabill Radiator also 6 Opening
