This Spring, Mr. Garman is retiring from teaching after serving at Leo High School since 1943. His career in teaching has covered many facets of the Educational Pro- gram. Mr. Garman coached many teams, two of which were County Tourney Champ- ions. His interest in the physical growth of students made summer baseball programs possible as well as making baseball a reg- ular school sport. Graduates of Leo will al- ways remember Mr. Garman as a teacher who made them learn even when they did not care. To Mr. Garman we dedicate this in apprec- iation of all his time, effort, and love. We wish him the greatest happiness and good fortune. We shall greatly miss you, Mr. Garman. Before them stood a judge ' s box and a witness stand. The audience could be heard saying 1 know her! Who IS that? I wonder if I ' ll be called on, On November 12,14,15, and 16, Leo High School Patrons were treated to an evening of theater. The comedy-drama NIGHT OF JANUARY 16th was presented by the senior high drama club under the direction of Jerry Elton Stover. The Audi- ence was readily caught up in the excite- ment of the trial and twelve of its members even became the jury, deciding for them- selves the verdict. Room 118 became not only the center for a play, but also a place to escape into the real-life world of crime, and lawyers, and witnesses, for, as each performer did his lines, made her gestures, made his crosses, and developed her character, the audience did not once waver from wonder- ing if Karen Andre really did kill Bjorn Faulkner ... or did his wife do it out of jealousy, or perhaps his father-in-law in order to protect the family name and in- terests, or maybe Larry Regan, the gang- ster, killed Faulkner ... In any case, Mr. Stover and his club proved again that time and effort well spent always make a success! ABOVE: The courtroom is called to attention as Judge Heathe (Bill Purcell) gives instructions to the clerk (Eric Ball), and the recorder (Amy Schwartz). RIGHT: The Swedish housekeeper (Maria Amstutz) is very biased when it concems Karen Andre. PLAY 34 1891 30 LEFT Karen Andre reacts to one of the witness ' s unkind remarks about her. ABOVE A somewhat shady detective (Charles Stailey, shows Mr. Flint (Paul Schwartz) how he saw Karen Andre PUSH Faulkner over the ledge. LEFT Kyle Sowers, playing the secretary who replaced Karen Andre after her arrest, makes a dramatic entrance from the audience scream- ing I ki I led him. I ki I led Bjorn Faulkner ... Picture credits with thanks go to Mr. R.D. Whissen. 35 PLAY OUR TOWN Kyle Sowers and Tony Hud- son played the boy and girl fated to fall in love and live life. In April the Senior High Drama Club presented the legendary, and timely, OUR TOWN. For four nights, Thornton Wilder ' s play, a favorite of Mr. Stover ' s, captured the hearts of old and young alike. The story of a boy and a girl growing-up in a small New England town at the turn- of-the-century gave its audiences the opportunity of looking into their lives. As Mr. Stover apt- ly reported in his program notes, If you recognize Leo and Grabill, it is on purpose. Fifty-four students participated in making the Drama Club ' s Spring production a memorable one With his outstanding cast of principals, Mr. Stover brought out the message of OUR TOWN: We fail to realize life while we live it. Stong performances by Kyle Sowers, Gordon Julius, and Tony Hudson made the message quite clear, especially for those who had lived similar ex- periences. Able support was given by Vic Baumgartner, Elizabeth Buckles, Dawn Robbins, and Brent Klopfenstein, as well the rest of the large cast. The Leo High School audiences own much to its fine performing groups. Thanks to Elton Stover and his Drama Club one more production has been added to the list of ' ing . VIr. Jerry ' outstand- RIGHT: Gordon Julius, playing the STAGE MANAGER, narrated the play and filled in the details of settings and action that were purposely missing from the play. CEIMTER: The first act of the play showed The Daily Life. From a typical scene of that act, we see the morning routine of getting ready for school. Robin Butler played Georges little sister, Rebecca. Beth Buckles played Mrs. Gibbs, George ' s mother, with all the professionalism she could master. RIGHT: As Mr. Webb, editor of the local paper and Emily ' s father, Vic Baumgartner did an excellent job. He was lated as saying, I wish I haged waited so long to get into a play. TOP LEFT TO RIGHT: As one of the harried mothers, Dawn Robbins was delighted as the conservative Mrs. Webb, Emily ' s mother. Brent Klopfenstien, as Dr. Gibbs the overworked but concerned town doctor, managed to not only rehearse every night, but also to participate in Spring Sports. He became Mr. Stover ' s favorite jock! Kurt Harris played the difficult part well, giving his Stimson all the needed bitterness and sense of betrayal needed to make such a part sympathetic. Kevin Roth, a junior high student, played dual roles of brothers. Joe and Sye Crowell de- livered newspapers. Jeff Piatt, played the amiable and simple Howie Newsome, town milkman. David Martin, whis- kered and covered in make-up, made a humorous Professor Willard, Wilder ' s symbol of the walking encyclope- dia. Even hardworking actors get hungry. Thanks to Mrs. Nancy Julius, the cast and crews were provided with a good dinner at the last dress rehearsal. After a dinner of Ham, Turkey, Whipped Po- tatoes, Corn, Tossed Salad and Sherbert, the King, Queen and Selected Seniors were acknowledged. After the theme song was played by radio station WMEE, an evening of dancing was enjoyed by all, with music provided by Grun.- fus. 39 PROM Selected Seniors included Dawn Robbins, Vic Baum- gartner, Kyle Sowers, Mark Heller, Deb Wells, Leroy Delagrange, Debbie Stein, Dawn Roth, Cheri Henderson, Tom Crabill and Bill Sanders. A U H ' Graduation on May 25, 1975 was a source of relief for some and a time of sadness for others, In the blistering heat, 95 sen- iors made their debute as new citizens of the world. After all received their diplomas, and marched off no longer as sen- iors, the tears began, and so did the rain. Many will be at- tending college, vocational schools, and others will hold jobs, or just bum it for a while. The Senior class officers for 1975 were Kyle Sowers serving as President, Dawn Robbins as Vice-President, Deb Wells as Secretary, and Lisa Urbine as Treasurer. The class of 1975 graduates at last. Af- ter 12 years of work and fun, it ' s over — or is it? We ' ll long remember our teachers, and we can never forget our friends, after all, it ' s the people that make the school, right?! We had it all this year; Senior Privilages, more traditional classes, and of course, the Zim Gang . This years Senior Class was 86 strong. It was lead by an all girl team-Dawn, Kyle, Lisa and Deb. We chose pastel green and yellow as class colors, the yellow rose as class flower, and the mot- to Not just live and let live, but live and help live . Many of the seniors excelled in their fields. Dawn Robbins and Dawn Roth in vocal music, Mike Augustyniak, Scott Kipfer, Bryan Myers, Eric Garrison and Kent Zimmerman made the ACAC squads in football, and the Senior Class itself won the float contest at the homecoming activities. A very busy year with the prom, gradua- tion, and all the hassles that occur with graduation; cap gown measurements, ordering invitations and senior pictures. It only happens once, then it ' s over. So with a certain amount of sadness, and with eyes to the future, the Class of ' 75 says good-bye to LHS . SEIMIORS 48 SENIORS TAKE LAST YEAR AS IT COMES BY — MAR LA A. It wasn ' t only a great team effort. We also have to thank the cheerleaders support, the fans, school, parents, and the community, for backing us to victory. Trailing most of the first-half. The Lions took a 17-16 lead and went to lead 28-22 at half-time. DeKalb fought back but could never get closer than 5 points. Then came the cele- bration all week„ it was a good feeling having a first Sectional Championship at Leo. SECTIONAL C 8(0_ I -ST NORTHSIDE-REGIONALS: The celebration all week might have hurt the team; they didn ' t play very well throughout the whole game. Only behind 20-26 at half-time, after playing a bad firsthalf. They just couldn ' t get it together and the 2nd half they were slowed by the strong Northside team 68-39. With all the Juniors that played this year, let ' s hope they learned something that will help them next year. Even with this, the team had depth on the bench and a good solid team effort on the floor. Two main reasons for suc- cess, team effort and a good team at- titude. Leaders in the seasons totals were; Herb Maier with 221 points, and 87 rebounds. Barry Delegrange with a 59% field goal percentage. Robbie Robbins at 73% from the free throw line, and Tim Christman with the most playing time which is attributed to his all-around ability. 97 FRESHMAN BASKETBALL CLASS TOURNEY 99 CLASS TOURNEY JUST DOIN ' WHAT COMES NATURALLY Cheerleading elections were held in April of ' 74. Dawn Robbins was chosen Capt. of the Varsity Squad, and Rosan Butler Capt. of the Reserves. The Varsity attended the ACC Camp in West Baden, IN. Both squads went to a clinic at Northside during the winter. Tears of joy, and tears of sadness combined to make the squads at Leo true cheerleaders. The VARSITY CHEER LEADERS of 1974-1975 were Sara Liechty; Pat Od- dou; Dawn Robbins, Capt; Kathy Neuhouser; and Stef Sylvester. They played unconsistantly throughout the whole season. When the sticks were working the defense wasn ' t, when the pitching was good, the hitting wasn ' t, etc. Highlights of the year were beating Northside and Southside two of the tougher teams in the city. In Sectional Angola beat us by 1-0 score. The run was scored on errors to show how the season went. Next years team should be tough with all the ex- perience of this season. Maybe the pot of gold isn ' t always easy to find, but the note sure is. First of all, there ' s the thank-ya ' s. Thank ' s and a lot goes to my assist. Editor, Kelli , who was my right hand whenever I needed one (about 99.9% of the time); Mona Sherry, who did GAA and some day be editors themselves. Todd who took care of the Jr. High section and his assist.. Brad; Conrad Phil who did the boys sports and kept us enter- tained when things got dull. Eriene Elaine, Lane, Jodi, Roxanne, Lisa, Lora, and Dave who did many pages for other parts of the book. And of course Mr. Hoot who put up with missed deadlines, missing pic- tures, money, ads and generally kept us going by getting whatever we needed. Also to everyone who put up with the yearbook staff; the business office, office, and many teachers. It really is the whole schools book. Hopefully we managed to catch just a part of what made Leo Our World! Robyn ' i. ' iTiXl XilEF ' ■r m H Sl hH s o 5 S Wsjf k BBs m H jBH n DWne
