All pronounced it the most delightful comedy to have reached the Leo Stage in recent years. The parts were excellently portrayed especially that of Newton Fuller acted by lames Heneghan, and Mrs. Fuller by Carol Noonan, Visitation High School. The following Leo students took part in the play: lames Heneghan, Mark Quinn, David lelinek, Daniel Turner, lames Sherman, Ioseph OBrien, Iarnes Lewis, lames Lavery, and Peter Wistort. The following young ladies took part: Carol Noonan, Visitation High School, Gail Cregan, Mercy High, Bar- Bara Quinn, Calumet High, Mary-Viv Cunnea, Maria, Patricia Finn, Visitation, lane Moran, Mercy High, Susan Hines, Aquinas High School. The production was under the direction of Mrs. Ioseph Sauris, and the Moderator was Br, W. A. Hens nessy. The music was furnished by the Leo High dance band, and the following boys assisted in the production: Richard Collins, Frank Spink, Iames Kiley, Connor Haugh, and Ken Karr. DRAMA FESTIVAL At the Eighth Annual Chicago Festival sponsored by Loyola Academy and the Central Region of the Catholic Theatre Conference, Leo High School presented 'lMinor Mir! acle , under the direction of Rev. Br. W. A. Hennessy. ln all, twenty-one schools were in the Festival. Leo was rated Superior, and won three College Scholarships and two Silver Medals. Car- mel tallied again on a plunge by Frank Pinn, The PAT was missed. The Lions roared back only to have their rally stopped by a fumble. The fireworks began when Tom Bowler recov- ered a fumble. The Lion's march was climaxed by a 24-yard touchdown sprint by Gorman. Later in the fourth quarter Bob Vanecko banged over, scoring two more touchdowns. His last touchdown was set up by lohn Sulli- van, who recovered a St. Mel fumble. Hank Prokaski converted twice. LEO 39 - ST. ELIZABETH 14 St, Elizabeth offered little resistance to the Lion backs who had a field day. Bob Vanecko started the fireworks with a lO-yard plunge for a touchdown. lim Beatty added two points to the score by tackling an lronman behind the goal line. Later, in the second quarter, Vanecko drove 2 yards for another score, behind the good blocking of Torn Maloney. lust before the halt ended, Ioe Gorman scooted 10 yards into the end zone. Prokaski's kick was good. ln the second half Bill Korn connected with a 20-yard pass to Dick Attreau for a touchdown. A short time later the same scoring combination, Korn to Attreau was good for 25 yards and 6 points. Dick Rocco dashed 45 yards for the final touch- down oi the game. LEO 31 - DE LA SALLE U The Lions completed their season by maul- ing a good De La Salle team who had been tied with Leo for second place in the South Section, Whitey Saletta blocked a De La Salle punt on their lU-yard line and Bill Slavin plunged over for the first touchdown. Later Bill Hession in- tercepted a Meteor pass on their 45-yard line and returned it 20 yards. Bill Korn threw a pass to loe Gorman for the tally. Near the end of the second quarter Tom lacques rambled 45 yards to score. ln the third period after Gorman had raced 40 yards to the De La Salle 4-yard line, Vanecko blasted his way home for the score. lack Donohue scored the last Leo touchdown of the season on a pass from Bill Hession. CofCaptain Iohn Michno and Roy Horton, Leo's outstanding sophomore, led the pack on the grueling two-mile course. They had to be satisfied with second and third place, however, as De Pauls Ed Monnelly nosed them out by a mere two seconds. These two mainstays were followed closely by Iack Kiley and Co-Captain Pete Wall, whose consistent efforts provided the winning mar- gin. The remaining members of the team were Larry Faxel, Dick Hallstein, and lim Heneghan, who, as they battled for fifth position on the team, provided the necessary depth which is characteristic of a championship team. The com- bined efforts of these men enabled the team to beat their closest opponent in a field of seven, by twenty points.
