Without a doubt the English Department has the most important job of any group in tlce school. During 'he four years at Leo the well of English literature is explored from Shakes- peare to Monsignor Sheen. Besides the reg- ular class periods the cultivation of the lan- guage is encouraged in such noteworthy events as the annual oratorical contest and the school play. The students are required to take Latin for the first two years and may con- tinue for all four. Span- ish classes are offered in the final two years and the enrollment is high there. The Editors of the Lion, who have troub'e understanding English, marvel at and congratulate these men.

Mathe- mrrlirrs Algebra, Trig, Geome- tries, plain and fancy, each one is offered to the Leo student. All are required to take Ele- mentary Algebra and Plane Geometry. After that the Leo student is offered a choice of mathematical subjects as broad as any school in the land. Outside the regular formalized course of Math, in- struction is given in Mechanical Drawing.
